Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynsey Johnson.
Hi Lynsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Dr. Lynsey Johnson, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, Founder & CEO of PCOS Sisters Telehealth Clinic & Wellness Center. We are a multi-state, national telehealth practice providing diagnosis, treatment, and lifelong care for women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. www.pcossisters.com. I also conduct research and mentor students at Emory University: Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. I’m a Georgia native, originally from Savannah, lived in Florida briefly and now reside in Atlanta.
I founded PCOS Sisters Telehealth Clinic in 2022 but started preparing for launch in 2021. I myself suffered with PCOS for years in my 20s unable to find a doctor that understood how to diagnose or treat PCOS inspiring me to establish a medical service that could reach women across the nation.
PCOS is a chronic endocrine disorder caused by excess androgens that affects 10-20% of all women globally, has a 70% misdiagnosed/undiagnosed rate, remains the #1 cause for infertility, costs the USA 8 billion dollars per year, and has minimal research on this very common cardiometabolic endocrine disease strongly associated with obesity and diabetes. Poor access to care has led women to travel long distances and wait on average 2 years and 3 doctors to receive a diagnosis and treatment.
Symptoms of PCOS include: Weight gain around the abdomen or obesity, scalp hair thinning, infertility, acne, unwanted hair, mood swings, irregular menstrual cycles and potential insulin resistance or diabetes if left untreated. PCOS is a syndrome meaning not all women with PCOS have all of the symptoms making diagnosis a complex process.
Education: Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Family Practice from Augusta University, BSN in Nursing Biology, and Psychology (triple major) from Georgia Southern University with further training at University of Florida and Emory University.

I also founded GA’s first PCOS Trailblazers 5K hike at Sweetwater Creek State Park in partnership with PCOS Challenge: The National Non-profit Association for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in 2025 to increase public awareness for PCOS
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a founder of a start up, you are often a trailblazer, the first to propose a new path, and in my case an innovative solution to provide medical care for a niche condition such as PCOS. This means you have no recipe to follow because you are the one creating the recipe! Convincing others that telehealth is a great way to reach patients that otherwise would not receive care was difficult in 2021, although widely accepted now. Also navigating the legal aspect to telehealth when the federal and state laws were being written as I was building my practice. In fact, navigating this process is so complex after other medical practices observed my success they started to reach out to me in droves leading me to launch a second company called NP Telehealth Consultants to help other medical providers and start ups utilize telehealth to develop niche practices and reach patients in rural areas that often lack specialty access.
When society started to adopt telehealth during COVID I noticed. I was working at Emory Healthcare in 2021 and had a lightbulb moment. How can I reach the 10-20% of all women that have PCOS……Telehealth! PCOS is perfect for telehealth because the diagnosis is largely bloodwork based. By establishing a partnership with Quest Diagnostics on the national level, patients can be diagnosed and start treatment within 2 weeks after seeing one of our providers, instead of struggling for years as I did trying to find a PCOS Specialist. I opened the virtual doors in March of 2022 and within 6 months had so many patients I had to start hiring help. I did not expect it to grow this fast! Now we have patients that fly in internationally or boat in off the coast of Florida from other countries just to receive care. That is how severe the need is for PCOS diagnosis and treatment. [Telehealth regulations require the patient be located within state lines of where the medical provider is licensed].
Many medical professionals are not trained in the complex diagnostic and treatment process for PCOS and the ones that did have the training either had waitlists for 6 months or longer or were hours away. With PCOS Sisters Telehealth clinic this is no longer the case, because we can reach women across the nation with same week availability. Appropriate PCOS treatment is very much personalized medicine, however there are guidelines. All of my medical providers receive 1:1 training with me in PCOS diagnosis and treatment based upon the latest evidence based International PCOS Guidelines.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about PCOS Sisters Telehealth Clinic & Wellness Center www.pcossisters.com?
PCOS Sisters Telehealth Clinic was established with the goal to diagnose and treat women with PCOS across the United States utilizing the latest evidence-based practice methods. We provide PCOS Healthcare Designed & Delivered by PCOS Women. I have lived experience as a woman with PCOS and have been through what my patients have and because of that I have a deep understanding of how to balance their hormones and personalize their care plan for their PCOS Type. Telehealth has provided the means to reach women from the comfort of their own home, no matter where they are located. The PCOS Sisters’ treatment plan is achieved through expert diagnostic labs, metabolic optimization, medical management of symptoms, and empowerment of PCOS women through community support in addition to our fitness and dietary App. No longer should lack of insurance or long distance be a barrier to care that often involves multiple specialists, high deductibles, and copays. We have negotiated discount labs with Quest diagnostics for the uninsured and also accept insurance in many states as well as affordable cash pay prices so that no woman with PCOS goes untreated and without diagnosis.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In my 20s, my first business was actually a small leather handbag boutique. As a lifelong learner I have formal training in fashion design and have been sewing since I was 12 years old. I am very much a creative. I cannot stress enough how important creativity is for entrepreneurship. Creativity is not just art. It can be expressed by having new ideas and creating new concepts across all disciplines including business, medicine, or the tech industry. I don’t think I would be where I am today, had I not learned the value of marketing and partnerships in the community with handbag design. To this day, I am known for my creative problem-solving skills and solutions that are often interdisciplinary and serve as a consultant for other startups. With the changes in the workforce predicted secondary to AI, I truly believe being a creative and having a strong liberal arts education will be more important than ever, being human is more important than ever. I want to encourage creatives to continue thinking outside the box and how you can apply those skills to different disciplines. This is a very sought after trait! Companies just have to figure out how to find these talented creatives. I have a 17-year-old son who is a talented oil painter and makes short films. I also mentor DNP students at Emory University. Thinking about future generations and how I can help them succeed is never far from my thoughts.
