Community Highlights: Meet Monica Torres of NXT Generation Mortuary Support

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Torres.

Hi Monica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Let me reintroduce myself: I am Monica Torres an AZ licensed embalmer, funeral director, cremationist and specializes in cranio-facial post-mortem reconstructive trauma care and Desairology.

I am the owner and founder of NXT Generation Mortuary Support Services LLC an AZ-based deathcare consulting firm and embalming trade service.

I am available for trade embalming and accept cases from all over the USA. I also accept private cases and can be hired out by families or funeral homes.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a woman in a male-dominated profession has posed many challenges from sexual harassment to cyberbullying. I’ve had to overcome many of my fears…….including my fear of death.

As you know, we’re big fans of NXT Generation Mortuary Support. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
NXT Generation Mortuary Support is a worldwide consulting firm. Some of the services we offer are:

– Traditional embalming and unembalmed body preparations
– Post Mortem Cosmetology service
– In house accredited education for morticians
– Private consulting and referral service for the public after death has occurred (for body preparations)
– Specialized care for deceased persons requiring repair for viewing due to severe trauma (covering all of the US and Canada)
– Public Speaking and community outreach programs for funeral homes, deathcare state and national associations
– Tourism bases learning events and experiences for dark tourists traveling to Arizona
– Courses for those interested in becoming a mortician

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was fond of dark art. At a young age, I enjoyed drawing and painting images of skulls and death-themed works. As a small child, I loved scary movies (I’ve since outgrown that) and loved to read scary stories and books. I’ve always been curious about the afterlife and have fueled my morbid curiosity as a young adult by learning all I could about American death practices.

The art and science of Embalming and learning about the ancient Egyptians and the processes they used to embalm and preserve their dead were fascinating to me. I couldn’t get enough! As a college student, I studied Tourism Management and Event Planning at ASU in Tempe, AZ. I loved to traveling with friends to different cities and always made it a point to tour a local cemetery. I am a history buff and love to learn about the people who came before us. My love for science, tourism and history led me to begin leading death-themed tourism events and experiences for Arizona travelers as a hobby.
