Hi Priscilla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a former ICU registered nurse turned Nurse Executive who quit her six-figure job in front of 300 people, took what she learned and built a million-dollar business in less than a year. At just 20 years old, I’d already been an open heart- Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse Manager caring for celebrity clients at a world-renowned hospital. I believed I had it all (and perhaps, I did): a six-figure salary, first-class flights, fancy hotels. But something was missing and it didn’t feel right. My job fed my lifestyle, but it didn’t feed my soul. I was sick of the corporate world, waiting around for opportunities and ultimately letting others choose my destiny. The hustle and sometimes back-breaking work wore me out very quickly!
I was sick and tired of trading my time for money. I’ve always had an issue trying to determine what’s the price of someone’s time; how can this ever be calculated in goodwill and if it can then exactly WHO is determining my number ?!
And then my brother passed away. This was a life changer and a game-changer for me. I was absolutely CRUSHED with the realization that the cliche “life is too short” is only a cliche until you’re talking on the phone with your brother on Monday and on Tuesday, he’s gone forever at the age of 33. “I can’t keep putting off the way I want to live my life. I only have today.”
Meanwhile, I’d been running a business on the side – catering to my entrepreneur spirit without even realizing it. My blog, Ask Pri, was something I did in my spare time – usually to vent about my long workdays and to share what I learned in the corporate world – but I’d never thought of it as a serious source of income. I eventually opened up a medical staffing agency that would prove to be a profitable business but not my true passion nonetheless.
Four years later, I created BrandproCEO to see if I could monetize my passion. Eventually, I started sharing my journey and knowledge while helping others start their businesses. Long story made short- I was getting paid by doctors & nurses to help create their businesses and when the word got out, everyday entrepreneurs wanted me to do the same for them. That’s when I had what some people call a “lightbulb moment.” I realized that I absolutely love showing people how to get paid for their knowledge & talents. For the first time in my life, I realized my purpose. You know what else? I’ve made bank, too!
In my first three weeks, I made $9K and completely paid off my college debt. I realized – this was my chance to create my own opportunities like my father taught me years ago. So I quit my job in front of 300 people live on my Facebook page and committed myself completely to teaching others how to gain financial freedom by monetizing their lives. Since then, I’ve been able to create a million-dollar business of my own. But what means the most to me is helping everyday entrepreneurs find their purpose in life and walk in their truth.
To date, I have built two businesses to over 1.1 million dollars (BrandproCEO and L.A Nursing Services). I also own a non-profit organization called Nurses For George that gives back to the community by connecting the underserved with QUALITY healthcare.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There was never a smooth road. Being successful at business takes grit, sacrifice and the amount of patience that seems humanly impossible more times than often. I struggled with the death of my brother and having the feeling of being trapped in an unsuccessful job. There were many struggles with starting a medical staffing agency. I had to break many barriers being a young, African American woman in a predominantly white male field. Finding informational and financial resources to create BrandproCEO was not easy by any means. Other struggles, like so many other woman, came with balancing work and life. Being a mom, wife and owner of two businesses with a combined total of 387 employees can every overwhelming and stressful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’d like to highlight my newest business venture BrandproCEO. BrandproCEO is a service-based business that helps aspiring entrepreneurs start their own businesses and non-profit organizations. We build business entities from the ground up and rebrand businesses that are failing. We offer educational courses, masterclasses and webinars for entrepreneurs who assistance in particular areas. These educational materials include ‘how to get business grants,’ ‘how to start my business in one week’, “how to get federal contracts,’ how to transition from employee to entrepreneur’, to name a few. As of January 30th, 2021, we have over 3100 students. BrandproCEO also host and attend business/entrepreneurial summits where I am a keynote speaker 2-3 times a year. What sets us apart is that once a year, we sponsor 25 entrepreneurs through our BrandproCEO Academy, giving them full access to mentorship, courses and grant eligibility.
