Community Highlights: Meet Sherri Hill of Empress Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Hill.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I call myself the ultimate Empath. I love standing up for others and caring for them. I have always been creative and had a love for interior design. I’ve always loved turning the ugly duckling into something beautiful. After spending many years chasing my dreams in Hollywood, I’ve had my share of being homeless living in hotels, and sleeping in the back of my car all while pursuing the American dream. As we all know, the pandemic has caused a serious affordable housing crisis across all 50 states. It breaks my heart to think that mothers and children are homeless sleeping in unsafe environments. My partner Tasha Metts who currently works in the home mortgage business, She and I decided to get involved and become a part of the solution. By providing affordable housing solutions. One of the ways we do that is by offering alternative housing, Prefab homes are our specialty, we searched high and low to find a product that exceeded county building standards. We work with a manufacturer that provides a quality product that is fireproof, water, and windproof, offering a lifetime guarantee on our homes. The only difference between our homes and traditional stick-built home is our frame is metal thereby offering more stability and long-term sustainability. We don’t comprise style or quality either.

Our home design includes anything from modern to traditional. The advantage to our home building process is our homes can be move-in ready within 90days of construction commensuration. We can offer a beautiful four bedroom 3+ bath home averaging 3300 square feet for under 300k. Basically, we can custom-build your home to fit your budget. Our goal is to be able to put someone who works at McDonald’s in a home. As we know, the pandemic also caused rents to skyrocket causing more evictions and forcing more moms to live in the streets. We are currently working with county officials to obtain land to develop affordable neighborhoods. It is our goal to giveaway one home to a single mom in every neighborhood we develop, that is our way of giving back and paving the way for others to realize we must all work together if we plan on saving our families and their ability to find and obtain affordable housing. Also for homeowners who have land, we assist in building additional income with tiny homes for airbnb purposes. Thereby eliminating their mortgage freeing up cash to invest in retirement.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
My road has not been smooth. I was a single mom at 22, struggling to find affordable housing outside the hood, I wanted my son to grow up amongst strong individuals doing something positive for their communities. That wasn’t easy for me then and it certainly ain’t easy now. One of the most aggravating things for me was paying my rent month after month on time and the first time, you can’t pay you on the eviction list. That is frustrating and very stressful to a single mom, I never want anyone to feel that fear, much less end up homeless. I’ve had to sleep on other people’s couches, feeling humiliated as an adult, I’ve spent many nights in cheap hotels and many nights in the back seat of my car. I struggled trying to maintain my independence due to evictions on my name ruining the chance for me to find someone to trust me for seven years before it’s removed from your credit. I always knew something had to change.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our specialty is affordable housing solutions. We develop affordable neighborhoods, offering everything from tiny homes to multi-family units. We stand apart from the competition as our goal is to make homeownership attainable for all Americans regardless of how much they earn. We build to suit your budget. We also help with saving the neighborhoods by helping existing homeowners to remodel and stay or flip. Not sell cheap and be left in the cold. We are the innovators of affordable housing solution.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am a huge risk-taker, I have opened doors for myself that most would only dream of. I am a former celebrity mgr, I also owned a streaming TV network, obtaining contracts with major celebrities. My mother taught me that she made a promise to her teachers and peers at 16 years old in 1965 while pregnant that she would become an executive secretary for a major oil company. Well, she retired from Exxon in 1983 and ventured into politics and defied those odds as well. So I am a born risk-taker, I am always taking that leap without concern of where I will land. I feel the fear and just do it anyway. If I fail at least I learned what won’t work, and I will get up and try it again. I have respect those who take risks, to not try is to give in to fear.
