Community Highlights: Meet Tabious Carter of Business Gainz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabious Carter.

Hi Tabious, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing my number one goal in life was to go to the NFL. Coming out of high school, I was one of the top college prospects in the country and earned a scholarship to the University of Florida. I thought that my future was set. After a couple of year at the University of Florida, I transferred to Valdosta University in hopes that would give me a chance to get drafted into the NFL. My time at Valdosta State was a great experience while winning back to back to back conference championships. On December 14, 2002, Valdosta State faced Grand Valley State for the Division II Football National Championship. During warmups of that game, all I could think was I made it! I am going to win a National Championship then go off to play in the NFL. Unfortunately, on the 6th play of the game, I tore my ACL. My NFL dreams were shattered. My dream of buying my mother a new home was gone.

I’ve always wanted to be my own boss going back to my college days, but I never knew anyone that was a successful entrepreneur. My journey in entrepreneurship began in 2010 when I joined Organo Gold which was a network marketing company that sold healthy gourmet coffee. I had always heard do not join one of those “pyramid schemes,” but I could not pass up this opportunity. This was the first time that I met so many successful black men that were not athletes. I had the opportunity to be mentored by several six figures and 7 figure earners on a daily basis. One of the best mentors I had and still follow him to this day is David Imonitie. At the time I was introduced to David, he was earning my yearly work salary on a monthly basis.

The first thing that I realized is that I needed to change my mindset. All my life, I was solely focused on football and making it to the NFL. I began work on my mindset by reading every book recommended by David. No one ever told me to read before. I was just told to go to school, go to college, and retire. I read Think & Go Rich by Napoleon Hill, Strangest Secret by Earl Nightengale, and anything by John C. Maxwell. After building my organization and skillset with Organo Gold, I knew that I needed to show younger black athletes that they have other options besides running a football, shooting a basketball, or becoming a rapper.

On April 24, 2019, I wrote my first book Standing in my Greatness, “Lessons From a Lost Son & Failed Husband.” I wanted to share my story of how I grew up and the mistakes that I made so others wouldn’t do the same. I honestly didn’t have a financial goal when writing the book. The lesson was on my heart. Telling my story would be worth it if I could help one person. My book was a big success selling a few thousand copies. I had the opportunity to have a book launch at Bloomingdales inside of Lennox Mall.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path was never smooth. Any successful entrepreneur will tell you that the road is filled with challenges and countless obstacles. I did a team training this past Monday advising that once you make the decision to pursue your dreams and goals, all hell is going to break loose.

The biggest challenge for me was getting around the right people who can push me towards my goals. I use to think I can do it all myself. Wealth is a team sport. In order to have massive success, you need people you can learn from and hold you accountable for the things you said you were going to do when you were excited. My girlfriend Dr. Timethia Bonner and mentor Bass Grant have been a tremendous help in keeping me on track.

The second challenge is understanding that everyone can’t go with you to the top. Everyone won’t believe in your dream. Some people will even try to stop you. Learn how to put blinders on so you can stay focus on the goal.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In June 2020, I launched the Business Gainz organization within IM Mastery Academy. IM Mastery academy is a financial, educational platform that teaches how to invest & trade within the foreign exchange and digital currency markets. Financial literacy is a skill set that is not taught in schools. Too many times in the African American community, we miss opportunities because we do not have access to the information. The Covid Pandemic changed the entire world in front of our faces. We have to learn to take control of our finances and create multiple streams of income.

Being able to help people grow into the person they envision themselves to be is one of the things that makes me very proud. To be successful in Network Marketing, people have to step outside of their “box”. A perfect example is my business partner Patrice “Money Magnet” Clark. Patrice came into this opportunity with no experience in network marketing and had a fear of public speaking. In the last six months, Patrice has become a Platinum Leader within the Business Gainz organization and earned enough money trading to walk away from a 6 figure income job. I am sure a lot of Voyage readers have heard of forex trading but might not be sure what is real and what is not. Business Gainz organization takes pride in helping people achieve success in trading and building an organization. We have become like family.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
1998 National Football Signing Day! All the hard work and dedication paid off. I signed my scholarship to the University of Florida.
