Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashara Johnson.
Hi Tashara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have four children and I missed the opportunity to breastfeed my oldest child due to lack of breastfeeding education I received during my pregnancy. When I learned the importance of breastfeeding, I breastfed the rest of my children for as long as possible. After receiving my degree in Nutrition, I began my career working as a Public Health Nutritionist for the WIC program. I provided nutrition education for women during and after their pregnancies and their children from newborn to age five. Every pregnant woman that I encountered, I’d talk to her about the benefits of breastfeeding and attempted to help any new mom with breastfeeding as much as I could. Through those experiences, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to pursue a career in lactation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur can be very challenging as a wife, mother of four and working three days a week in at the hospital. Balancing my duties at home, running a private practice, and managing the day to day aspects of a small business can be overwhelming, but it is possible to handle. After working with a mom and seeing the joy in her eyes when she’s finally able to get her baby to latch, makes it all worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Latch and Love Lactation Center?
Latch and Love Lactation Center provides breastfeeding support to expectant families through breastfeeding classes. Since the pandemic, we offer virtual group and private breastfeeding classes. Latch and Love Lactation also provide breastfeeding support to families that may be experiencing pain with latch, low milk supply, infants with low weight gain, reoccurring engorgement, infants with jaundice, mom returning back to work, or support moms may just need encouragement. What sets us apart is the experience I have working with NICU families. So parents that want to breastfeed ex-NICU babies can receive breastfeeding support as well. Also, we have the ability to provide these services in the comfort of the family’s home. Most new parents enjoy not having to pack up their newborn and taking them out of the house.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about our city is the diversity. What I like least about our city is the traffic.
