Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Green.
Hi Victor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. I started promoting parties in high school and in College. I attended Eastern Michigan University but my introduction into the business world was an internship at Bad Boy Entertainment. My dream at the time was to be a record exec and that was a great start but I needed to be in New York City, so I transferred to a university in New Jersey and took a chance. I eventually got the opportunity to work in the A&R departments at Atlantic records as well as Sony/Columbia under Atlanta native Kawan “KP” Prather.
Around 2008 the music business was going through a lot of changes and I ended up leaving Sony/Columbia and at the same time, my roommate passed away. I left New York and went back t0 Eastern Michigan to finish my degree. One of my friends from high school played in the NFL and he asked me to help with some of his off the field affairs. From there me and his agent worked closely together which developed into a jr agent position. I loved the NFL representation business but I seen a niche in the boxing business. The state of Ohio has always produced world-class fighters but the platforms are limited and a lot of them fall victim to the streets. I applied for my boxing promoters license and preceded to promote my first show in my hometown Toledo. The first show was a disaster, I lost money and one of the fighters had a heart attack in the ring and flat-lined but was thankfully resuscitated by the paramedics on site. I had a lot of doubts but I gave it another try eight months later and sold the same venue out. I stayed consistent after that.
Since then, my promotion has expanded to three other cities Kansas City, Cleveland, and Atlanta where Pulse Boxing is based. My company represents some of the best fighters in the world and I recently struck a deal with Fite Tv to provide content for their platform.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Extremely bumpy road, working in sports and music is not for the weak, lol. Dealing with creatives and athletes can be demanding. On top of the financial commitment. Long story short you have to be comfortable losing money to work in sports and music. It takes vision.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pulse Boxing Promotions?
My company promotes professional boxing events. We book the venue, book the date with the states boxing commission, book the fighters, and promote the event. Our focus is not just making a great boxing event, but to make it a great event. that men and women want to get fly for and attend.
How do you define success?
My personal definition of success is to wake up and be happy in your life situations. No dollar amount is associated with success in my book. There are executives around the world harming themselves because of the pressures.
