Conversations with Akay Okoli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akay Okoli.

Hi Akay , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing photography professionally in May 2024. It was more of a hobby to me when I started. It still is up till this day even though now I’m seeing some sort of money from it. I’ve always loved taking pictures and getting my pictures taken. It seemed like a thing that a lot of people weren’t good at especially when it came to taking my pictures. Which is why I decided to start learning photography more in depth. Been going 2 years strong by this May

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say one big thing was equipment cost. With this being a hobby, I had to buy stuff with my own personal money. And advertisement is a big thing: content creation, posting your work, etc

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Student at Kennesaw state university. Third year Electrical Engineering Major. I work as an intern right now for Georgia Power. Although I have moved from job to job over the years. I’ve worked at Zaxbys, Walmart, a leasing office. It’s say im most proud of all I that I’ve been able to do at such a young age. I moved here from Nigeria at 15 without my parents. Lived with family that stay here in the US. I’ve been mostly independent from the age of 16

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Waking up early at 5am on a Saturday morning and going down to watch tv with my siblings while our parents are still asleep

Pricing:

• My base rate is a 30 minute session for $60 then it goes up from there when the client wants more
