Conversations with Breana Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breana Thomas.

Breana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey with a love for storytelling that felt bigger than me—it was never just a hobby, it was something I needed. Pursuing that passion led me to train at Howard University, where I began to understand not just how to perform, but why storytelling matters. Being in that environment shaped me deeply, both as an artist and as a person.

During that time, I was fortunate enough to study abroad at the British American Drama Academy and that experience stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. It challenged my confidence, expanded my perspective, and reminded me that I belonged in this work, even when I doubted myself.

My path hasn’t been straightforward, and there have been moments where I questioned everything—my choices, my direction, even my place in this industry. But through all of that, I kept coming back to the same truth: storytelling is where I feel most like myself. Every setback, every shift, has added depth to who I am and what I bring to my craft.

Today, I’m still growing, still learning, and still choosing this path with intention. I’m committed to telling stories that are honest and human, and to continuing to evolve—not just as an artist, but as someone who has something real to say.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been seasons where my life felt really unstable—I moved around a lot, and that lack of consistency made it hard to feel grounded or secure in my path.

I also had to step away at times to take care of my mental health. That wasn’t easy to admit to myself, especially when it felt like I was falling behind. But in hindsight, it was something I truly needed in order to grow and come back stronger and more clear about who I am.

There were also practical challenges. I had to pursue other endeavors just to support myself, which sometimes pulled me away from what I really wanted to do. Balancing survival with passion is something a lot of people don’t talk about, but it’s been a real part of my journey.

Spiritually, I went through a turning point where I resubmitted my life to Christ. That gave me a new sense of direction, discipline, and peace, especially during moments when everything else felt uncertain.

Through all of this, I’ve had to fight through self-doubt and redefine what success looks like for me. My path hasn’t been linear, but every challenge has shaped me, grounded me, and made me more intentional about the life and career I’m building.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a creative at heart, and my work spans acting, dance, and esthetics, with a focus on makeup for TV and film. I’m known for being an actress, dancer, and esthetician, and all three areas connect through my passion for storytelling, transformation, and helping people feel seen.

As an actress, I’m drawn to emotionally honest work. I focus on bringing depth and vulnerability to my performances, really understanding a character from the inside out. Dance is another extension of that for me—it allows me to express emotion physically and connect to storytelling in a more intuitive, embodied way.

As an esthetician and makeup artist for TV and film, I approach beauty as both an art and a form of storytelling. Whether I’m preparing skin or creating a look on set, I’m thinking about character, mood, and how someone is meant to be seen on screen. I love being part of that transformation process and helping bring a vision to life.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to stay committed to my path while building multiple skill sets that all support each other. It hasn’t been a straight line, but everything I’ve done has added to my perspective and strengthened my work.

What sets me apart is that I understand both sides of the camera. I know what it feels like to be the performer, and I also know how to support that performance through movement, skin, and makeup. That gives me a deeper level of intention, empathy, and awareness in everything I do.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think the industry is shifting in a big way, especially with technology and how content is created and shared. There’s more opportunity than ever, but also more competition, so it really pushes you to be versatile and intentional about your path.

For me, I see a rise in multi-hyphenate creatives—people who don’t just stay in one lane. That’s something I relate to as an actress, dancer, and esthetician working in TV and film. I think having multiple skills is going to be an advantage, not a distraction.

I also see a stronger focus on authenticity, diversity, and telling more honest, human stories. That’s exciting to me because it aligns with how I already approach my work.

Overall, I think the industry is expanding, and the people who stay adaptable and true to themselves are the ones who will grow with it.
