Today we’d like to introduce you to Christiana Ponder.
Hi Christiana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, I launched my hair collection in February 2021. I have always been passionate about feeling good and looking good. I started off just purchasing bundles and wigs from different vendors for myself. I had a vendor I’d been ordering from for months, and I had always thought about selling hair. So I messaged her one day, asking what I would need to do to start my own hair business and if she would be willing to be my vendor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall the launch went very smooth. The hardest part was honestly just getting the confidence in myself to start my business. But I had and still have a great support system that I’m extremely thankful for!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full-time college student, I attend The Savannah State University majoring in Political Science. I sell the finest 10A Virgin bundles, wig units, frontals and closures. I think the quality and price sets my business apart from others. You get great quality hair without spending “an arm and a leg”.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
COVID-19 definitely put things into perspective for me. It honestly pushed me more toward starting my own business. Many people were left without jobs due to the crisis. I always want to have more than one way to have money coming in. Multiple streams of income is the goal.
