Today we’d like to introduce you to Deyonte’ Davis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Yes, it’s crazy how I got to where I am now coming from Arkansas and spending more than half my life there. I always wanted to be a professional athlete but that didn’t quite work out. After high school, I went to the University of Arkansas where I played football and majored in environmental science (never to get a job in that field). Fast forward a few years later, I landed my first big corporate job as an IT scrum master for Walmart Global HQ in Bentonville, AR. Surrounded by some of the best technology in the world, my passion for technology and how corporations rolled out these global upgrades grew. After staying in this role for almost a year and a half, I took a job in my same department as a Project Manager diving deeper into more knowledge about information technology and how each person on the team contributes. A few years later, I took a personal leap to move out to Los Angeles, CA. I had enough money saved to pursue bigger and better things. I started doing some of the things I’ve always wanted to do like acting. While acting, I began to learn more about branding and the cultural impact African Americans have in sports, entertainment, and fashion.
Around this same time, the Goerge Floyd incident happened so I along with an old friend from home that also had moved to LA took it upon ourselves to shine some light on the lack of diversity and inclusion in the corporate world mainly in branding decisions being made by companies like Disney, Spotify, Netflix, and Califia Farms. At the moment, I’m currently working on a DOA (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) named The Trappin’ Company which the idea came from Elon Musk’s The Boring Company. The Trappin’ Company is a group of builders, disruptors, artists, doers and cannabis connoisseurs forming a community to discuss and shape what it looks like to consciously consume cannabis with shared passions for technology, web3, cryptocurrency and the creator economy. Our beliefs are that great organizations are driven by purpose, not just profit and that great communities grow authentic relationships. There you will find our roadmap which discusses what we call “seasons”, showing you how we are going to revolutionize the Cannabis industry globally and the rollout of integrations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not hahaha but we are here now and I thank God for every moment throughout this journey. I’m no stranger to adversity growing up in a single parent home. I watched my mom work hard and sacrifice for me to have a better opportunity through sports. I learned mental toughness and grit but I learned character from my mother. When I got to college, I struggled with academics finding the balance between sports and Industrial engineering was extremely difficult so after a semester, I switched my major, being away from home and not having money to buy food, I began to hustle landing me with a minor cannabis position charge.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in strategic brand partnerships and business development, I connect artists, entertainers and brands together for cross promotional opportunities that are beneficial for all parties involved. What sets me apart from other professionals this space is that I am from the culture, truly understand it, and can relate to clients on a personal level not just from a business perspective.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can join our private token gated community by joining our DOA where my team and I will hold private chat room discussions about Web3, crypto, NFTs, cannabis, and more or we can be found on Twitter (@thetrappinco). You can also find out about any opportunities we have available there. These will be compensated, so be on the lookout for those job postings!
