Conversations with Nallu Massoud

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nallu Massoud.

Nallu, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as a lo-fi artist honestly. It’s kind of crazy looking back now especially because of the massive genre change. Staying in Africa though, that’s what really helped define my sound and image more. That’s where I discovered newer sounds like Fuji, Afrorave, Amapiano. Next thing you know, we are here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never an easy road. My dad even now disapproves me doing music. Everyone only family kind of does too. I had to figure everything out on my own. From mixing, equipment, having money for music, networking. Everything. It’s never easy and those who say it is are obviously lying or don’t want the success as bad as you or me do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an Afrobeats/amapiano artist from East Africa. My sound is nothing like my piers or anyone’s honestly. That’s what I love about what I do.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My wife. She’s my number 1 supporter through everything. There were so many days where I felt down and wanted to give up, but she would never let that happen. She believes in me more than anyone. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her. And long live Costa Titch. I’ll forever be grateful for him too.
