Conversations with Piper “Posh” Barley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Piper Barley.

Hi Piper, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in the industry really young as an assistant. I assisted some of the top stylists in the industry that taught me way more than I could ever learn from a cosmetology program. Eventually, I learned how to do hair, and thats when I developed a passion for cosmetology. I then got my license and started my journey to provide women with quality hair care services.

I opened my salon in 2015 and have continued to educate myself with knowledge of hair care that helps with hair growth as well as services that fit today’s businesswomen. My great-grandmother was the top stylist is Columbus, GA, where she was known for growing hair all over town. I would like to say that I’ve been blessed with her gift as well. I have a variety of products that help with the growth of hair, like my hair skin and nail vitamins, along with satin pillowcases that help to keep hair moisturized while sleeping. This fall I’ll be launching a vegan shampoo line called the PHD Rx formulas that is infused with biotin, which also aids in the hair growth process. I’m excited to create more and more products and services that women need to have healthy, beautiful hair!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road in business. I believe that everyone has trial and error, which help you to mold your business to success. Some of the struggles were figuring out what works best versus what didn’t work. I had to learn how to use my finances properly. I had to learn which marketing strategies were worth my investments and which ones to leave on the table. Business is always hit with the challenges of the world, the market and the industry your business fit in.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a cosmetologist I specialize in healthy hair first, then color and micro links. I’m known for growing hair and awesome hair color. I’m proud of my growth as a stylist and a salon owner. I believe what sets me apart from others is… I realize I’ll never know it all, so I will continue to educate myself forever, and I’m always open to working with my peers.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like Atlanta because of the diversity and the differences amongst the inner cities. The only thing I dislike is that there are a lot of stylists that aren’t licensed and many that are not into haircare.
