Conversations with Re’verse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Re’verse.

Hi Re’verse, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Re’verse is a dance team based off from Chennai, a city at the southern part of India. The team started as three girls who came together to share their love for dance along with the Kpop culture. They started out in 2019 for a performance at the city’s well known Korean Culture organisation – The KWave India’s annual meet and that was the start. The team has been formed through friendships that started through their shared interests towards dance, and now the team has over 20 members around the world (adding both active and inactive members).

We have participated in the all the editions of the ‘All India K-pop Dance Contest’ since 2020, we were a performing artist at ‘Circle of Love’ Chennai’s own Indie Music Festival, conducted dance workshops, performed at many notable Korean Culture events and recently was even a performing artist at the Comic Con India – Chennai 2026. Our social media platform especially our Instagram showcases all the events we have been a part of, and also features many of the moments were our performances have gone viral, and was also also noticed by few of the original artists themselves.

Meghana, Smruti and Mrithika started the team as trio and later – Pooja, Trhea, Janani, Pavithra, Aishwarya, Sadhvi, Sruthi, Sruthi S, Kiruthika, Shakti, Aishwariya, Pavethra and Ananthiya, all joined the team at times when the team needed another soul to feel a little more livelier and more fun.

To tell more about the team, each member of the team brings something special, it could be the k-pop artist they like, the genre of dance they love, the food they eat, the music they listened to, every member had something endearingly unique about each one of them, but we were always able to find our common link together, this helped the team to nurture, learn from each other, love the things they did and also grow a deep bond with each other on a personal level. It was like saying a random ‘meme’ reference and you will surely and instantly have another team member get it and we would laugh for so long and that was how simple and easy the team work has been.

The team is filled with people of various professions who can only be united together for an occasion such as the love of dance, some of us do pursue dance as a profession, while others have also gone to work on different professions. But we do think that is somethings that is special about us, Re’verse was never just about competitions, practices and getting a routine done but it was about able to having a safe space were we can come and dance with each other even on our hardest day and feel better. And that is something we shall always try to uphold, that this friendship we found through dance also holds a safe space that lets us in anytime. So currently, that is where we are, while trying to figure out adult life, we all collectively also hold the safe space we have built together with more new friends every year.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Doing all of this as a team who is a mix of students, and new adults with jobs have always not been the easiest thing, but as a team we all work through all our schedules.

The bigger wall is always to climb off the prejudice people have over dancers who navigate through this genre of K-pop Dance Covers and pre-worked choreographies.

Despite the team having professional dancers, we as a team do not specialise in choreographies in most of the cases, we direct on existing choreographies for most of the occasions and this tends to be a wall that we would also like to climb over. As this needs more time and effort to be put together as a team we still strive to learn from our experiences so far and do better to showcase our abilities to the best.

What Re’verse as a team strives for is not greatness but surely to be a place were people who dream, come together to make all these dreams that we have shared together to happen and that surely is the biggest goal now. And we surely can assure you we are working step by step towards each of them and hope we get to meet more people and share all the joy we get through dancing on the stage, for that is the opportunity that we cherish the most from being in this team together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are Re’verse, a dance team from Chennai, India. We are a bunch of office workers, professional dancers and students, who were brought together by the love and passion for dance and K-pop, that what started as a K-pop dance cover group, now strives to experiment and also grow more together as a group.

As a team we try to enjoy our stages, so the people who watch us also gets to enjoy it, we are surely are known for our creative and fun-filled takes during our performances as we try make it more connected with the audience too and these performances and few of our witty takes have also gotten us few spotlights on the internet.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Mostly, it is the artists and dancers that we love and look up to, that helps us do this. From 1st Generation of K-pop to the recent generation the genre has inspired each and every member of the team. Each member adores and looks up to various dancers and thus that brings a distinctive style that the group tries to hold.
