Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Sasic
Hi Sara , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m originally from Belgrade, Serbia, a city where European architectural aesthetics and a rich cultural history have always been a significant part of my life. My background is a unique blend of fashion, industrial design, and architecture, which has deeply influenced my approach to interior design.
Growing up, I was always surrounded by the world of fashion and design, which sparked my interest in how environments shape our experiences. My journey began in the fashion and industrial sectors, where I developed a keen eye for detail, structure, and the blending of materials. This experience, along with my appreciation for European architectural styles, allowed me to create a distinctive design language that incorporates both contemporary and traditional elements.
A pivotal moment in my journey was moving to Atlanta to pursue my Master of Fine Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). This experience not only honed my design skills but also provided me with the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and network within the vibrant creative community. It was here that I truly expanded my design philosophy, integrating modern, artistic influences with my European roots.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every road has its challenges, and my journey has certainly had its share of ups and downs. There have been moments of uncertainty, times when things didn’t go as planned, or when I had to push through obstacles that felt overwhelming. But I truly believe that believing in your dream and staying focused on your path is key to navigating those difficult moments.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of surrounding yourself with the right people—those who support and inspire you. The right network can make a huge difference, providing guidance, encouragement, and perspective when things get tough. When you have a strong foundation of mentors, peers, and collaborators who share your vision or help you refine it, the road becomes not only smoother but also more enjoyable.
Ultimately, the challenges along the way have only made me more resilient and have reinforced my commitment to my path. Each step, no matter how difficult, has shaped who I am today and how I approach both my personal and professional life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in luxury interior design, with a particular focus on creating bespoke, high-end spaces that blend contemporary aesthetics with timeless elegance. My work is deeply influenced by my background in industrial design, which I studied during my undergraduate years. This foundation has given me a unique approach to interior design, as I often integrate custom-designed furniture pieces that complement the spaces I create. I find great joy in crafting environments where every detail, from the architecture to the furniture, feels seamlessly connected, creating a cohesive and luxurious experience for the client.
Luxury design, for me, is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about crafting spaces that evoke emotions and memories, making people feel something special when they walk in. I want my clients and the people who experience my designs to remember the space long after they’ve left, to feel as though they’ve stepped into something unique and tailored just for them.
In addition to the creative and technical aspects of my work, I am deeply inspired by learning from others and constantly seeking new experiences. Whether it’s through travel, collaborating with other designers, or exploring entrepreneurial ventures, I am always looking for fresh perspectives that help me grow as both a designer and a business owner. This ongoing exploration and drive to learn fuels my creativity and ensures that my work stays dynamic and innovative.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, the key to building a strong network and finding a mentor has been attending interior design events organized by local groups like NEWH, IIDA, ASID and others. These events are great for learning about opportunities, but they’re also a fantastic way to meet like-minded professionals—especially those new to the city or the industry. Some of my best connections have come from these events, turning into both mentorships and lasting friendships.
Networking isn’t just about business—it’s about building a supportive community where people inspire and help each other grow. I’d recommend engaging with others authentically, as the most rewarding connections often come from genuine relationships, not just professional exchanges.
