Conversations with Sharif King

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharif King.

Hi Sharif, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started in New York City, rooted in storytelling, culture, and connection. Growing up in Harlem and the Bronx, I was always drawn to media, music, sports, and the power of communication. I realized early that I didn’t just want to be part of conversations—I wanted to help shape them.

That passion led me into broadcasting, journalism, and multimedia storytelling. Over the years, I’ve worked across television, radio, digital media, live events, and sports—building experience in newsrooms, entertainment spaces, radio stations, and community-centered storytelling. From working with major media brands and radio stations to covering culture, interviewing artists, athletes, and changemakers, every experience helped sharpen my voice and purpose.

Education also became a major part of my story. I earned degrees in media, broadcast journalism, sports administration, and digital journalism because I believe talent opens doors, but preparation helps sustain impact. I’ve always been intentional about evolving—not just creatively, but strategically.

Today, I’m building something bigger than a personal brand. Through Sharif D. King Global and my growing media ecosystem, my focus is on storytelling, leadership, culture, sports, media innovation, and creating platforms that inform, inspire, and elevate communities. Whether it’s hosting, producing, mentoring, speaking, or building media properties, my mission is rooted in helping people feel seen, heard, and empowered.

At the core of it all, I’m someone who believes in growth, ownership, and purpose. I often say I’m not just building content—I’m building legacy. And this is only the beginning.

— Sharif D. King “King Sharif”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all—and honestly, I think that’s what has shaped me.

One of the biggest lessons along my journey has been learning what truly matters to me and understanding who I am at my core. If I’m honest, there were times when people assumed I didn’t need help because of the weight my name carried or the confidence I walked in. Some viewed me as cocky, arrogant, or overly confident, when in reality, I was someone who welcomed support, guidance, and meaningful relationships.

That season taught me something major: I had to trust God deeply because people, while important, couldn’t always be the foundation I relied on. Faith became my anchor.

Over the years, I’ve learned what it truly means to invest in yourself—and I’m not just talking financially. I had to invest in discipline, growth, relationships, education, patience, healing, and perspective. Every connection, platform, opportunity, booking, interview, and feature—I earned and embraced. Nothing was handed to me.

My journey has been a combination of talent, hard work, perseverance, strategy, and most importantly, faith. People often talk about the “10,000 hours,” and I always say I put in well beyond that. At some point, I realized success had to be bigger than talent alone. It required character, resilience, wisdom, and trust in timing.

One of my struggles was trying to do everything alone. I didn’t always trust people, and fear sometimes made me overly independent. But the more I leaned on God, the less worried I became—and the more impactful, focused, and explosive my work became.

Another lesson was letting go of timelines. Some of the things I expected to happen took far longer than I imagined, while some of the opportunities I never saw coming became some of my biggest blessings and breakthroughs.

So no, my road hasn’t been smooth—but I truly believe the size of my purpose required preparation. Every setback, lesson, and level-up has helped shape not only the man I am becoming, but also the example I hope to be for the next person coming behind me—especially young men with dreams, vision, purpose, and ambition to soar.

The journey continues, and I’m grateful for all of it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I’m a storyteller, multimedia broadcaster, journalist, host, and platform builder who specializes in connecting culture, media, sports, leadership, and community through impactful storytelling and experiences.

Over the years, I’ve worked across television, radio, digital media, live events, sports, and content production. My work spans hosting, reporting, producing, interviewing, moderating conversations, public speaking, media strategy, and creative direction. I’ve had the opportunity to interview artists, athletes, entertainers, and changemakers while also helping tell stories that inspire, inform, and create meaningful connections.

I’m known for my energy, authenticity, versatility, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether I’m on a microphone, in front of a camera, moderating a panel, speaking to youth, covering sports, or building media platforms, my goal is always the same: to create impact and leave people better than I found them.

What I specialize in most is storytelling with purpose. I don’t just like content for the sake of content—I care about meaningful conversations, culture, leadership, visibility, and helping elevate people, brands, and communities. I’ve built a career at the intersection of media, sports, entertainment, lifestyle, and personal growth.

What I’m most proud of is my perseverance and the fact that I’ve been able to continuously evolve. I’m proud that I didn’t give up, even during difficult seasons. I’m proud of the platforms I’ve helped build, the relationships I’ve cultivated, the people I’ve impacted, and the way I continue to reinvent myself while staying authentic to who I am. I’m also proud to continue investing in education, leadership, and long-term vision while building something bigger than myself.

What sets me apart is that I genuinely see the bigger picture. I’m not just focused on being talent—I think like a builder, strategist, and leader. I believe in ownership, legacy, and creating opportunities that extend beyond me. I bring heart, professionalism, faith, intentionality, and vision into everything I do.

At the end of the day, I want people to remember me not just for what I created, but for how I made them feel, the doors I helped open, and the impact I made through storytelling, service, and leadership.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are a lot of ways people can work with, collaborate, and support what I’m building. And honestly, I’m inspired by people who’ve mastered the art of connecting culture, conversation, and entertainment—Big Tigger being one of them. I’ve often said I’ve taken a few pages from his playbook, not to imitate, but to understand what it looks like to authentically connect media, music, community, and culture while still creating your own lane.

At the heart of everything I do is storytelling, leadership, culture, media, sports, and community. Whether it’s hosting, moderating, speaking engagements, media partnerships, interviews, content creation, brand collaborations, creative strategy, mentorship, community engagement, or event opportunities, I’m always open to meaningful collaborations that align with impact and purpose. I continue to build my own lane as a host, journalist, and media personality, rooted in meaningful conversation, culture, and connection.

People can also support by engaging with the platforms, content, and resources I’ve created. My newly launched website serves as a hub for what I’m building. Through my digital platforms, people can access my content, e-books, trackers, and resources focused on growth, storytelling, creativity, wellness, and personal development—including my fitness and wellness tools. You can explore and purchase products directly through my website, Stan store, and Amazon, including my fitness planner, digital fitness tracker, journals, e-books, and books—with more creative projects on the way.

I’m also excited about my radio journey as I continue to expand my voice and reach. I’m currently executive producing Clean or Dirty Radio alongside Cover, a legendary producer known for shaping clean and dirty music, in partnership with Umbrella Studios NYC. The show is an extension of culture, conversation, music, and connection—bringing authentic energy, real dialogue, and impactful storytelling to the airwaves.

This summer leading into the fall, I’m also intentionally pouring into community through my “Kingin in the Community” initiative—focused on connection, visibility, storytelling, and meaningful engagement in the spaces and communities I’m building relationships with. The first stop of that initiative is “Kingin in Brooklyn,” as I intentionally build deeper roots, partnerships, and community impact throughout Brooklyn.

As for what’s next—let’s just say Sharif D. King Global is gearing up to take flight. I’m in a season of building intentionally, expanding strategically, and creating opportunities that are bigger than me. I don’t want to give away too much just yet, but there are exciting things on the horizon.

For those looking to connect, collaborate, or stay tapped in, you can follow me across platforms: Instagram, X, Threads, Facebook, and YouTube: @IAmSharifDKing. You can also connect professionally on LinkedIn at LinkedIn.com/in/SharifDKing.

Most importantly, support doesn’t always have to look big. Sometimes support is sharing the work, showing up, collaborating, investing in yourself through the tools I create, tuning in, opening doors, or simply believing in the vision. I truly appreciate everyone who has supported the journey—and we’re only getting started.
