Conversations with Sonja Burrus

Sonja Burrus is a transformational coach and public speaker certified by the John Maxwell team. She is exercising her passion to equip business professionals, women, and the youth with a proven leadership development system to help them innovate and create pathways of discovery and empowerment.

Miss Burrus currently resides near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Management and Organizational Development from Eastern University in St. David’s, Pennsylvania. Her undergraduate degree was obtained from Gwynedd Mercy College. She has spent much of her business career in leadership roles for nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Her previous Board experience includes serving on the Board of Directors for an organization in Delaware that speaks to homelessness, a Board member of a local Performing Arts Company; the President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Black MBA Association; and the Economic Development Committee for the Black Women’s Leadership Council in Philadelphia. Miss Burrus has also owned and operated several businesses. She currently serves as a Notary Public and Signing Agent in Pennsylvania

Sonja is also a drama artist, singer/songwriter, violinist, and choreographer.  She has lived most of her life reinventing herself through her passions. With each transformation, she has evolved into yet another beautiful, black, powerful woman. By faith and through perseverance, she is gifted by God to help others to do the same.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have absolutely been many bumps in the road. My New Book entitled, Embracing The Moment, is about my personal journey and some of the struggles I had to embrace along the way in order to become who I am today.

1. Knowing and understanding my purpose in life and how it plays out.
2. Developing a close relationship with God.
3. Overcoming the rejection and hurt that comes with broken family & personal relationships.
4. Forgiveness
5. Struggles with weight and overall health.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have been a career Administrator since I graduated from high school. I’ve always like to organize and put things that are out of order back together. Once receiving my Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in organizational development, I began serving on not-for-profit boards in the areas of higher education, the arts, and service to the homeless. I am currently serving as a Notary Public and Signing Agent, a Caregiver, and an Officiant.

What do I specialize in: I am a Woman of God whose focus is to further the Kingdom of God. One of the ways I accomplish this is by using a proven leadership development system to empower leaders in the Body of Christ.

What am I known for: I am a leader’s leader; a mentor; an innovator; a caregiver; a stage and film artist; a singer-songwriter; a violinist; an author; and a business owner.

I am most proud of the fact that I am still here after surviving my life’s traumas. I am also proud of my family who have served in the military to protect the causes of the United States of America.

What sets me apart from others is that I care about people; I have vision; and I’m driven to do what is right.

What’s next?
• I am looking forward to the release of my 1st book entitled, “Embracing The Moment”.

• I am looking forward to releasing my 1st song which is a Country Western Song

• I am looking forward to the next season of my life, which will look like the manifestation of God’s promises.
