Today we’d like to introduce you to Taja Ambroise.
Hi Taja, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always walked around with a camera in my hand. From a young child with a $3 disposable camera until now, photography has always been in me. For the past few years, I was actively trying to be a motherhood/lifestyle influencer. I am a wife of 10 years and a mom of five boys, and nothing makes me happier than spending time with them. I started blogging and was super active on social media sharing styled photos of all the activities I would do with them. Doing this allowed me to meet many people in my city and made my presence known on social media.
Last year when the pandemic caused me to temporarily lose my job, a coworker of mine asked me to take photos for his clothing brand because he loved the photos I took for my blogs. Having no idea what I was about to get myself into, he booked a photography studio for us, and I went. I had no clue what I was doing. I had only ever shot in natural light before, and this was a whole new venture. Thank God for the owner of the studio, Shyann Brinson. She noticed the panic on my face and helped me with the lighting and the camera settings to get the perfect shot. I went home in amazement and quickly YouTubed everything I needed to know about editing these types of photos. The day I shared the photos online from the shoot, I received inquiries and support from every person that had been following my blog. The amount of love I received starting this new business was unreal. It didn’t take me too much longer to realize that I found the thing that makes me feel filled, so I chose to quit my job this pass December and fully invest in myself and my growing business.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I feel like every new adventure has its ups and downs. I think the hardest part of this journey for me is just learning the business side of the photography world. I was never taught to have a healthy relationship with money so learning how to balance, invest, and keep up with this new source of income was a little challenging. Another challenge I would say is just making my presence known in this industry that already has so many wonderful photographers. The best part of it though is that you can never get complacent. The competition makes you have to constantly challenge yourself and push your creativity out of you. Every day that I wake up, I want to be the better version of myself and teach myself something that I didn’t already know about taking the perfect portrait.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in studio and outdoor portraits. I’ve dabbled into many different areas of photography since I’ve started. I have tried real estate, events, weddings, newborn, boudoir, and lifestyle. I would have to say maternity portraits have become my favorite. I feel the least amount of pressure and stress doing these and I get to just flow freely. Most of my clients trust me to have creative control and this is when I work best. I pride myself on my customer service skills. I try to make booking me with as stress-free as possible. I’m constantly communicating with my clients and have them leaving my photoshoots feeling like the hottest thing on the block and my best friend.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would definitely consider myself a people person and feel like my energy and creativity are what make people come to me.
