Conversations with Temisha Libert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Temisha Libert.

Hi Temisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the Caribbean most of my life, has instilled a strong foundation in me to prepared for whatever goals I want to achieve. Singing in the church, at community events and numerous competitions have opened so many doors for me. One of those doors was by making history through the art form of Calypso. Currently, I am a 7th time Calypso Queen and the reigning Ms. US Virgin Islands International Ambassador. My brand and platform, “Well Preserved” is bringing global awareness and value to culture and traditions of past, present and future to the kids and community. The overall goal is to keep culture and traditions alive no matter who you are or where you are in the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Taking over a male-dominated arena in Calypso wasn’t easy. I was told that I don’t look or speak like a true Caribbean woman and has been stigmatized for that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, I’m a medical professional specializing in laparoscopic and general. For leisure, I’m usually still busy promoting “Well Preserved” and performing live at numerous events. I’m most proud that I have made my family and islands proud when I have represented them victoriously. Being a role model and a positive example to my nieces and nephews is even more rewarding so that they can’t have me to aspire to be like, seek higher education and be a helping hand in preserving our culture.

How do you think about luck?
God has been and is continuing to play an intricate force in my life. He’s at the forefront of everything I do because is has given me life when I thought it was over. People never know the struggles you’ve faced to get to where you are now. They only see the rewards and if wasn’t for this grace and mercy, I would be here or accomplished anything without him.
