Today we’d like to introduce you to Tye Miller.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’d like to think of my journey and how I got here as a book; the creator as the author and me as the illustrator.
My name is Tye Miller, I am a native to Kansas City, Missouri and recently relocated my family of 5 to the Bay Area, California.
Most know me as their licensed beautician or their trusted oracle. I’d like to think I am so much more than that to my community; I am not only a beautician but I am a healer, a friend, a mother, a mentor, a sister, an astrologist, an artist, a creator, a teacher, a traveler, a wanderer, a black woman, and so much more.
It all started before I was born; it was the year 1990 (3 years before my birthdate), my mother and father (Teresa and Curtis Miller) opened up their first salon together in Kansas City, Missouri. With two kids & a vision, they made Into Hair one of the most popular and successful hair salons in KC! Still till this day “Into Hair Naturally Salon” is still open and thriving.
3 years later, I was birthed. Birthed into a world full of creativity and passion for black hair and community. I grew up watching my mother and the other stylist: relax, cut and style hair, I’ve see her mother and support so many young girls/ women, I got to see the true essence of who we truly are as black people! The smell of products, kids outside playing, D’Angelos “how does it feel” music video debuting for the first time, salon talk and gossip, people coming in selling plates/desserts/cds/dvds/clothes! I could go on and on for days! The feeling was indescribable. I watched my mom put on poetry and hair shows, even helped her work some of them. My mom truly exposed me to so much culture and beauty! I owe her so much for who I am today.
I remember taking an interest in wanting to do hair when I was about 4 years old. I would play with my dolls or my mom’s mannequin heads and practice doing ponytails and whatever I could manage to do at that age. Once I turned 8, I remember asking my mom to teach me how to braid to the scalp ( as I could already braid off the scalp), it took me about a month to really get the hang of it and that really opened up a can of worms once I began practicing and actually getting good at it. I would ask my friends could I practice on their hair, heck I even began going to school braiding hair at recess for $5 and up. Even had a 7th grade teacher have me put two braids in her hair during class because she knew I could braid.
While I was in school (all 12 years) everyone knew my mom was a hairstylist and owned a salon. So naturally kids would fluctuate towards me for hair advice, hair appts, etc.
Fast forwarding to sophomore year, I learned that there was an option to go to vocational school for cosmetology; I began preparing right then and there. Cosmetology school on the average can cost about $30,000 and as a child I knew we didn’t have that kind of money on hand. Vocational school was $787 for the whole course (cosmetology), I would have to go my whole senior year in high school and graduate from vocational and high school at the same time.
Of course I went; and had two of the most amazing instructors; Gloria Donato And Carrie McDaniel. These two women poured so much into all of the students, I had an experience like no other and am very proud to say I am a Herndon career center graduate. I wouldn’t be who I am today without those two women.
May 2012- I graduated both cosmetology and highschool, such a major accomplishment! July 2012, i passed my written and practical exam; making me a licensed professional in the state of Missouri. I immediately went to work at my mother’s salon, and also worked at SmartStyle Salon in Walmart for 6months part time.
As the years progressed I truly made a name for myself in Kansas City. I was and still is known for being a “healing beautician” . I’ve gotten a chance to truly experience and learn so much from the women that have sat in my chair. It has helped me evolve both spiritually and personally. So much that I discovered the gift of Clairvoyance and clairaudience , clairsenstience, remote viewing and more. Being in this industry helped with that! Helped bring a gift out that in return still continues to help guide and council so many people! I am a trusted conduit or oracle to my community enough that they seek me anytime they are being challenged in life.
-I have worked with two celebrities: e40 of Bay Area , Ca and techn9ne of Kansas City.
-I was an educator for SalonSpaConnection for two years 2018-2020

We relocated in 2025 to the Bay Area, California. I am now a licensed professional in the state of California and just found my salon home in Antioch! I really am excited for my new journey and very happy to be of service for the Bay!
I truly hope this encapsulates as much of who I am. Thank you for the opportunity
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say being a single mother was probably the hardest challenge. I had to grow my clientele and be a mom, and that’s very challenging. Especially if you have bills which we all do. However, having her caused me to put myself into overdrive and not give up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Licensed Cosmetologist and Conduit.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be persistent and consistent about you! Times will be slow & it will be challenging, but the only way through it is SHOWING UP. Even when nobody is watching, SHOW UP.
