Conversations with Violette Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Violette Harris.

Hi Violette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Violette Harris and I am the owner of Harris Heartfelt Photos & Designs. As a little girl, I always loved to take pictures, not just of people, but of any and everything. I had no idea that I would one day become a photographer. In 2018, my husband was coaching a little lead baseball team and they needed a photographer to do their team photos. My husband brought the idea to me, but I was nervous about the opportunity. I knew nothing about taking professional photos. I decided to step out on faith. He purchased me my first camera and I went for it. From that day forward, I knew that photography was my calling. I was anxious to learn more about it. Things such as editing, lighting, equipment, etc. I came up with my business name Harris Heartfelt because I knew that capturing beautiful photos was heartfelt for me. I love what I do. That first baseball opportunity help me get to where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has never been a smooth road. I’ve encountered many trials and errors along the way. The greatest challenges for me was comparing my work to other photographers and being so hard on myself. I have to constantly remind myself that I am only human and it’s okay to make mistakes. Most importantly, throughout this journey, I’ve learned so much about managing a business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Atlanta based wedding and lifestyle Photographer. I do on site photo sessions. I specialize in weddings, engagements, and lifestyle portraits. I am known for capturing beautiful photos, especially sessions pertaining to love. I enjoy watching natural love flow. I am most proud of how much I have learned about photography over the past few years. I am also proud of how much my skills have improved. What sets me apart from other photographers is I take photos because that’s what I love to do. I have never did it for finances. I make every client feel comfortable during their session and I allow them to be authentic in front of my lens.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone just starting out would be do not compare your work to other people. You never know how long they have been in the game. Learn your camera and don’t be afraid to mess up. Take tons of pictures and learn your camera! Over time, it gets better and better.
