Conversations with WaDerrious Sellers

Today we’d like to introduce you to WaDerrious Sellers.

Hi WaDerrious, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I Was born in Monroe, Louisiana, enduring a rough childhood where my siblings and I witnessed and survived the murder of our mother and uncle. I use music as therapy because, I believe music speaks where words fail. I look up to Huey P Newton, another Monroe native, and decided to take on his legacy, but with a musical twist. I am also a known activist, model, and upcoming actor. My musical influences start back from early hiphop, but I do love all types of music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can say this above anything—the road has never been easy for me. I’ve faced challenges my entire life. At just seven years old, I witnessed my mother and my uncle lose their lives in front of me and my siblings. Since then, life has been a constant mix of highs and lows—a true roller coaster.
I’ve seen more death, more struggle, and more poverty than most people could handle without breaking. Experiences like that can shake even the strongest minds. But through it all, I’m still here—and I believe that’s for a reason.
I’ve always said that God gives the hardest battles to His strongest soldiers. And without a doubt, I know I’m one of them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist first and foremost—I create music that comes from real-life experience. I specialize in turning pain, growth, and everyday struggles into something people can feel and relate to. My sound is rooted in authenticity. I don’t try to follow trends—I tell my story the way it happened, and I let the music speak for itself. That’s what people know me for: being real, being raw, and not holding anything back.
What I’m most proud of is my resilience. Everything I’ve been through could’ve easily taken me down a different path, but instead, I turned it into purpose. I take pride in being able to speak not just for myself, but for people who’ve been through similar situations and don’t always have a voice.
What sets me apart is my story and how I deliver it. A lot of people make music, but not everybody has lived what I’ve lived—or can express it in a way that connects on a deeper level. I bring emotion, truth, and perspective that you can’t fake. It’s not just music—it’s testimony.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In 5 years, I will be a household name. I will be known for my work in the community as well as my musical talents. I plan on having at least 3 successful albums and doing features with artist I would love to work with. I will travel the world and give back to the youth because they are the future and we must invest in them. I will be raising my son and helping him be the best he can be. I also plan on making a movie about my life because the crazy tragedies and great triumphs I’ve endured is worth the watch. I want to be remembered for being a positive figure in the black community and making people think.
