Daily Inspiration: Meet Abbigail Arthur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbigail Arthur.

Hi abbigail, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The question of how I started is so hard. I could say it started with a teacher from high school who took a chance on 15 year old me who was working full time and falling asleep in class. Or I could say it started when I ended up in the hospital for a disease that consumed my health and social life. But, I might just say it started with my first taste of community. Being a kid, playing with other kids, making music on mailboxes, and art on the sidewalk. Walking down the street to get a plate from the cookout that would happen every couple days, and catching up with the people who would hype me up on every small achievement. That pool of support and creativity I was swimming in since before I could walk has been the thing that pushes me with every choice I make. Its made me over-talkative with strangers, curious to learn their story and calculating when ours can overlap. Every piece of material I push out, wether thats art, graphics, videos, or just my own image, I think of who I can reach with it. I think of where can I throw out inspiration, or make someone smile. Thats how Ive gotten here so far, and I will continue to.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I grew up poor, on food stamps, boxes from the church, hand-me-down clothes, and pretty absent adults. I had the people across the street, and down the road who taught me how to eat, clean, protect myself, and what loyalty means. The one thing it never taught me was that life could be bigger than the struggle. Getting out of that mentality, especially as I enter true adulthood has been hard. Between getting sick, bullied heavily, abused, and supporting myself alone financially, theres been more than a few bumps. Its been very easy to loose track of what I actually want, or even need out of life, but i never fail to find my way back.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do graphic design, I really specialize in photoshop. Im known for my sports graphics, posters, and flyers. Im most proud of “abbimadeit” as a whole. Every piece of work is my brain, picked apart and thrown back together in a way that may only make sense to some. What sets me apart from others is I don’t just follow main stream designs, and trends. I follow what feels right, what feels off putting in a positive way, and what feels like true representation of me or my client. It’s hard to find people who aren’t just putting up a front, who aren’t just chasing the bag. I pride myself on being authentic. I might not be too much or too little for some but that’s okay. My brand is about chasing and capturing a feeling, and some people have a hard time with those.

What makes you happy?
Music makes me happy. The feeling of the sun and rain on my skin. The smile of a stranger. Life makes me happy. The people in it, that make life unique and special make me happy. All of these things make the heavy things feel light. How can you be anything other than happy when you hear the bass on a track, and the vocals of people who had a vision? Why not be happy when everyday you’re given a million reasons to smile?
