Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee and Philmore Epps IV.
Hi Ashlee and Philmore, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are the millennial couple behind the Our Journey of Love Podcast. This podcast is the platform on which we discuss our journey of love from the friend zone all the way to married life. We share personal experiences, funny relationship stories, and relationship lessons we have learned along the way. We strive to always be transparent and honest.
The goal of the podcast is to simply showcase black millennial love in a positive manner. We share our story in hopes that it inspires and empowers other couples.
Philmore and Ashlee met at work when they were teenagers. Ashlee thought Philmore was stuck up and was not interested in getting to know him at all, but after working several shifts together, they grew to like each in a platonic way. After high school, they attended college in different states but always kept in touch with each other. Philmore would periodically visit Ashlee through the years. April 2015 is when this friendship showed potential to blossom into something else. Ashlee had planned a birthday trip with her friends to Mexico and had invited Philmore and his friends. And guess what? All the friends back out, so Ashlee and Philmore decided to go on the trip by themselves. Philmore took over the planning and made sure Ashlee had an amazing birthday. Shortly after returning from the trip, Phil and Ashlee started dating long distance; they dated for about 1.5 years and got engaged in October 2016. They later married in March 2018 and welcomed a baby boy In December 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. Launching a podcast is already daunting but it proved to be a challenge for a couple of reasons:
1. We have very different approaches on how to accomplish a goal.
2. Shortly after we launched, we discovered that Ashlee was pregnant, which slowed down the production a bit because she wasn’t always feeling well.
3. There was difficulty in deciding what exactly to share. Ultimately, we decided that transparency was the only way to be authentic and have our audience really connect with us on the topics we are discussing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Philmore: Professionally, I have worked in the logistics field for 14 years.
Ashlee: I have worked in the healthcare field for 15 years and I am currently in Law School pursuing a Juris Master degree in Healthcare Law and Regulation.
We are unique in that we provide a millennial perspective to married life. We use our relationship as an example of how you can overcome challenges together and still have fun with your spouse. We are engaging and relatable because we share our personal truths and practical relationship advice for millennial couples. When we are not podcasting, we love to travel. Some of our favorite destinations that we have visited include: Greece, Italy, Spain, Iceland, and France to name a few. We also consider ourselves to be “foodies” not just because we like to eat but because we love to try local delicacies at every destination that we visit. We plan to start a travel segment on our podcast to share some of these experiences with our audience.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
1. Speaking engagements- We are open to speak at marriage and/or love and relationship events.
2. Podcast Collaboration- We would love to connect with other podcasters to discuss love, life, and everything in between. Just reach out via e-mail to connect.
