Daily Inspiration: Meet Brianna Mbog

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Mbog.

Hi Brianna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Indie Author Assistant was born from a deep love of reading, a passion for supporting indie authors, and a desire to build a life no longer confined by the limits of a traditional 9–5. What started as an idea rooted in creativity and community has grown into a purpose-driven business dedicated to helping authors thrive.

Armed with a diverse skill set, from organization and marketing to behind-the-scenes support, I knew I had tools that could genuinely benefit indie authors. Recognizing that the publishing world is constantly evolving, I also took the initiative to teach myself additional essential skills to better serve authors and meet their growing needs.

With these skills in hand, I began reaching out to authors and offering my services, one connection at a time. What started as a leap of faith quickly turned into meaningful partnerships built on trust, collaboration, and a shared love for storytelling.

Four years later, I’m honored to work with nine incredibly talented authors across the romance and thriller genres, supporting their creative journeys and helping bring their stories to life. The Indie Author Assistant continues to grow with the same mission at its heart: empowering indie authors through knowledge, connection, and support.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth, but that is to be expected. Like many businesses built from the ground up, The Indie Author Assistant faced early challenges, particularly in establishing trust within the indie author community. When I first began, I was building my portfolio from scratch, which meant asking authors to place confidence in my skills before there was an extensive body of work to reference. Earning that trust required transparency, consistency, and a commitment to delivering quality support at every stage of the process.

There were also times when authors made the difficult decision not to move forward with working together. These moments, while disappointing, were an important part of growth. Each decision, regardless of the reason, offered valuable insight into the diverse needs, expectations, and priorities within the indie publishing world.

Rather than viewing these experiences as setbacks, they became opportunities to refine my services, strengthen communication, and better serve the authors who did choose to partner with me. Through patience, professionalism, and perseverance, those early challenges helped shape the foundation of The Indie Author Assistant into the trusted, author-focused resource it is today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The Indie Author Assistant offers a wide variety of services tailored specifically to indie authors, including street team and ARC team management, book promotion, and editing services, all designed to be both effective and affordable for independent creators. Every service is structured with the unique challenges of indie publishing in mind, ensuring authors receive meaningful support without unnecessary financial strain.

What I’m most proud of is building a business rooted in something I genuinely love: books, storytelling, and the people behind them. Being able to combine my passion for reading with a purpose-driven mission to support authors has been incredibly rewarding.

What truly sets The Indie Author Assistant apart is the relationships built along the way. While this is a professional business, I prioritize creating an environment where authors feel comfortable reaching out, not just for book-related needs, but for guidance, encouragement, or support whenever they need it. My goal is to be more than a service provider; I strive to be a trusted partner in each author’s journey.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe risk-taking is an essential part of building any successful business. From the very beginning, choosing to step away from the familiar and start something new was a risk in itself. There were no guarantees, only the belief that passion, dedication, and persistence could turn an idea into something meaningful.

Growth doesn’t happen by staying comfortable. Each new service offered, each connection made, and each opportunity pursued requires a willingness to step into the unknown. Taking calculated risks has allowed the business to evolve, adapt, and better serve the ever-changing needs of indie authors.

Continuing to build and grow means continually taking risks, trusting the process, learning from challenges, and embracing uncertainty as a necessary part of progress. It is through these risks that innovation happens, confidence is built, and long-term success becomes possible.
