Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantrelle.
Chantrelle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Multidisciplinary artist and curator born in Suffern, NY, exploring memory, identity, and emotional truth through music, acrylic, and mixed media. My work is rooted in lived experience—transforming grief, trauma, and survival into visual narratives that center mental health, suicide awareness, and PTSD. I create to hold space, to connect, and to remind others they are not alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There isn’t anything smooth about the path of an artist. I’ve explored many different mediums from painting to tattooing and music. There are so many ways I’ve had to learn to express myself over the years. Opening the first black woman owned tattoo shop in San Antonio, TX in 2020 to beginning my curation journey in Atlanta galleries.
Resilience has been a necessary part of my journey as an artist. Being fearless enough to continue.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a poly-math requires some level of discipline although it may appear that I live a very free spirited life. I have my hands in so many things and creating a sustainable balance through all of my mediums is what I’m most known for.
In 2025 alone, I was featured in more than 10 art exhibitions/ gallery shows. One in which I curated at Nina Baldwin Gallery in Castleberry Hill. “Divergent” was a mental health focused group exhibit that opened doors for me to bring light and visibility to the stigmas surrounding artist and mental health. Being able to share my own personal experiences through my work lead to speaking on a panel in front of Clark Atlanta University for a mental health themed art therapy workshop. I pride myself in being vulnerable enough to discuss my personal battles openly to make people feel seen and understood.
When im not painting, I am a full time tattoo artist at Atlanta Ink, while also curating the shop’s art gallery. I have been tattooing for over a decade, and honored to be able to create permanent pieces that will travel through the world.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I have never been afraid of trying new things! At 32 years old, there aren’t many creative mediums I haven’t explored or experienced. I am grateful for my curiosity.. it has lead me into rooms that I would have not otherwise known had I not been fearless enough to enter.
