Daily Inspiration: Meet Drecember

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drecember.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is DeAndre “Drecember” Scott. The name “Drecember” is a combination of my surname and birth month/date (December 25th, 1992). I’m a 28-year young freelance model, actor, brand ambassador, production assistant and webseries personality born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Tigrett, Tennessee. Upon leaving college and a life of complacency in Murfreesboro, TN, in 2016, I took on a journey with two close friends to Atlanta, GA, in pursuit of my childhood dream to become a household name through film and television. I then began background artist work on productions such as Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, Leave It To Stevie, Black Panther, CW networks Black Lightning, Picts Perfect 2 and a slew of other smaller projects. After a month of doing these projects back to back and getting a taste of the Black Entertainment Mecca, I quickly had the epiphany that the background was nowhere for me despite the connections and interactions it brought me. It wasn’t until I took on a production role with the insanely popular yet unknown to me webseries “Chasing Atlanta” that I was introduced to an up-and-coming realm of entertainment that I quickly became a forerunner of.

Upon making connections in the LGBTQ webseries world through Chasing Atlanta, I then was casted on an equally popular webseries “G-Status ATL Hustle” the same year. Having the bodacious and spicy personality I possess, I brought an element to the show that was missing and quickly rose to webseries fame. I did another season with them but parted ways before production wrapped due to creative differences and went on to appear on other webseries such as season 1 of Signal23’s “Cuffin Season” and the sister series of Chasing Atlanta- “Chasing Dallas” in February 2021. Currently, I am featured as a main character on the new webseries “Crew Love” as Khalil, which is now streaming on YouTube!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Making my way in this industry has been equal parts smooth yet challenging. I’ve been doing media since I was a freshman in college in 2011, in which I was a reporter/anchorman for my school’s television show amongst holding other leadership roles. I took the straight path in life for a while until the universe finally pushed me out of that life of comfort and into my journey of doing what I was meant to on this earth. Atlanta was my second choice behind California, which wasn’t cost efficient for me at the time- my ex had just evicted me from his apartment I moved into with him after the lease was up on my own and my money was extremely scarce from being basically a househusband for 19 months.

I couch-surfed with a friend for under two weeks before I finally said to myself, either I go back to my small town in Tigrett, Tennessee I worked so desperately to leave or I go balls to the wall and create the reality I’ve been desiring in my head all these years. So New Year’s Eve 2017, my two closest friends and I packed up our cars and headed to Atlanta with nothing but sights of a new beginning. It was a struggle at first, not knowing anyone and not having a place to layout heads but me being the brains, I made sure we were straight every step of the way. The two of them- both exotic dancers, one male one female-only lasted till May of 2017 and then I found myself on my own making a way in Atlanta but still staying way above water. I had a plan and I stuck to it regardless of how many rooms I rented, wild situations and personalities I encountered and hustles I had to claw my way to grab. It’s been 5 years of no regrets because I ended up where I want to be for now.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So I’ve never been one to stick to one title or occupation- I haven’t worked a 9-5 since 2016 and I want to keep it that way. I was put on this earth to live my making, not make a living. I currently do gig work and brand ambassador work to pay the two bills to my name (rent and phone bill) while maintaining the freedom and flexibility to do any acting/production gigs as needed since the hours can be long and unpredictable. I love to travel as well and can call a slew of states my home- I just came from Dallas wrapping up the webseries I did there in February while also learning the city. So as far as a job title, I will say I’m a creative as creativity can’t be limited.

I’m best known for my webseries work, though, as the notoriety I possess comes from the impact I’ve made in that realm. You can utter the name Drecember in the LGBTQ webseries sector and it’s bound to set off alarms as polarizing as I’ve become, lol. I’m proud of all my work because the person I am on camera is the person I am off-camera, regardless of how outlandish it may seem. I want to always possess that authenticity because in the entertainment world, it’s easy to become a persona that is unauthentic to who you genuinely are. It was a project outside of the reality tv world I’ve become so known from and I enjoyed bringing Khalil to life- a character I see a lot of myself in yet has a completely different walk of life than I.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to those starting out is to have a plan, break it down, put energy behind it through your thoughts and actions and stay true to that goal regardless of the trials and tribulations that may come down the road. I’m a big believer in energy and speaking things into the universe. Books such as “The seven spiritual laws of success,” “the secret,” “the power of now,” “the Celestine prophecy” and many many others, as well as researching the paths of my influences and watching interviews of celebrities and their journeys helped mold that motivation and drive in me. Research the people you idolize and see how they started.

I will also say sometimes your path can Change as mine did when I saw that acting wasn’t the only path destined for me. It’s okay to reroute as long as the initial desire within you never changes and for me, mine was becoming a household name without the attachment to a 9-5 life. Figure out what excites you and follow that path because the only one stopping you is you. I tell myself, “Follow your highest excitement” in anything I set out to do.
