Daily Inspiration: Meet Edwin Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Wright.

Hi Edwin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Lymphoma Brain Cancer survivor, Educator, Community Builder, but most importantly, a performer, songwriter, and singer. Born January 28th, marching to a beat of my own drum. Putting on performances for my family at age five, entertaining and building my artistry from artists like Usher, Ne-Yo to the legends like Prince and Marvin Gaye. Helping me shape myself as an artist. Into my teenage years I picked up a pen and began to write my feelings on paper. Not knowing in my future, I would be driven to express myself more through music.

In April 2013, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Lymphoma Brain Cancer. There was a tumor the size of a golf ball ingrown on my frontal lube on my brain. With my memory slipping away, and me not being able to keep up in conversations, there was one thing that never left my memory, which was lyrics to songs! Every song I had learned as a child to the songs that I wrote were engraved in my mind. After a three-year battle with brain cancer, I was placed in remission! Inspired more than ever to write about my experience and what it had taught me in my songs like “Stick Up,” which focuses on the racial inequality and the trauma that the African American race has been conditioned into. To the heartfelt mid-tempo ballad “Gotta Make it Right”. I was inspired to spread my messages by performing at Mayoral events; and Mental Awareness National Events. My drive to show people to live life to their best capacity is still in full fledge and the next stop is the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that every journey worth traveling. It shouldn’t be a smooth road because there are a couple of lessons you have to take in in order to win. There are a couple of trip-ups that you have to stumble through, and I know for myself I faced plenty of struggles and learned many lessons. For instance, the lesson of staying consistent despite what May go wrong if you work at it, it can go right.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a contemporary R&B artist who sings, writes, visually creates, and sonically pushes the normal listener’s ear to a different level!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I try to live by the characteristics of Patience, Determination, and Persistence. I think they are most important because there are levels to success, and in every level, you have to go through it with patience in your process, determination in obtaining, and persistence to your goal, I think those characteristics make it easier to obtain success.
