Daily Inspiration: Meet Islande Lallemand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Islande Lallemand.

Hi Islande, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a foodie and always love food and cooking since I was really young. I say as young as five years old. I started my spices business last year during the pandemic when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I realized in the black, especially Caribbean community, high blood pressure is a big issue. Because of my love of cooking and food, I decided to fight high blood pressure by creating my own spices.

We can still have all the amazing flavors of the spices but without the sodium. Sodium is a big factor when you have high blood pressure. So I offer low and no sodium seasoning. I’m hoping to help out my community battle high blood pressure while still enjoying amazing flavored food with the high sodium levels in the seasoning. I’ve had great weight loss results with using my seasoning too. Also, I have amazing delicacies from Haiti on my site. We have Haitian hot chocolate, which is a delicious form of one hundred percent cocoa. Also, a rare find of Haiti’s exotic black mushrooms is “djon djon” which is used to cook rice, also known as black rice or Duri Djon Djon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth road because everyone seems to have their own seasoning out right now. However I’ve had some great support and people is started to appreciate my cause.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My 9 to 5 currently is a manager at a big financial institution. I help with developing talents; however, my true passion is my blogging/seasoning business. I absolutely love to cook and create different flavors. I’m Haitian, so I love to do Haitian fusion. This sounds bias but I truly believe we have the best rice and bean. We have an array of exotic spices and flavors. My cooking and seasoning come from a true passion for food. Food is truly my Sidepiece. I want to share my all-natural, homemade seasoning with everyone not just because of the flavor but also because of no sodium or low sodium in the seasoning it’s healthy and also a way to fight high blood pressure.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Deep down, I’m very shy. Yes, I talk a lot but people will never believe I get stage fright and get very nervous about speaking in public.
