Daily Inspiration: Meet Jasmine Hawkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Hawkins.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started getting into makeup much later in life, like around age 22 as a way to help build my self-esteem. Growing up, my mother use to put in my head that I was ugly, too dark-skinned to even be considered beautiful and that did a number on me as a child. One day, I was on YouTube and fell upon Kandee Johnson, Michelle Phan, etc and that’s when I fell in love with makeup. I saw how it made them happy, and I wanted that for myself. This helped me become more confident, and I began to build my self-esteem. After a few years of using makeup on myself and I started seeing how difficult it was to find contour for my skin tone, pigmented eyeshadow to pop on my skin and I started thinking, “what if I created my own makeup line” something that could help my community get good quality makeup and that’s when I made my first product, Glow Drops on April 2017.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth ride at all. I honestly wish it was though lol. Makeup is an ever-changing product as well as social media. I had to rebrand in 2018/2019 just when my brand was picking up momentum. You have to keep current to what the customer’s behaviors are like and how they are feeling that week. Additionally, I am a one-woman operation, I’m tugged in so many different directions as well as my home life, and it can make running a business extremely difficult. I have to make sure I post on this day at this time, what are the customers interested in this week, how will I create the next best product for my brand, etc. However, through all the ups and downs, I never give up on my brand and my customers. I always come back stronger and better.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a stay-at-home mom, and I am currently working on my MBA with an emphasis in Marketing. I am known for being a loving, caring and nurturing type of woman that just wants to be happy and everyone around her. I have four beautiful children and a wonderful husband that I am extremely proud of and is at the forefront to my “Why.” My drive is to be successful and to give my family a better life and foundation. I want to help others to feel better about themselves, which is something I didn’t have for myself growing up.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when I moved in with my grandmother. She uses to take me shopping with her all the time, and I use to have these amazing talks with her as we walked around the mall and window shop. She was my best friend growing up. She always had an open ear and gave me the best advice a girl could ask for. She now lives in Florida, but I truly miss those days with her.
