Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Gentry.
Leah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been singing longer than I can remember! As a kid, I took piano and vocal lessons, took part in recitals and talent shows, and got into musical theater. As I got older, I explored these more in depth by writing my own songs, performing with more professional groups at various venues, and taking music classes in both high school and college. I always knew I wanted to have a career in the music industry, but this was solidified for me as I started going to more concerts. Concerts have always served as a reminder of what I want to do and why I want to do it! So, in summer of 2023, right before my freshman year of college, I released my very first song on all streaming platforms. The process of creating it, releasing it, promoting it, and being able to proudly say “I did that!” is something I will never grow tired of! Since then, I have released four other songs and have another one that will be available on June 20th, 2025. In addition to releasing music, I met my manager in January 2025 and have been making more connections and performing my own music live. Despite what people have told me, I have persisted and kept my head up, which is what has carried me to where I am today!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth it ever comes easy, so there have definitely been challenges! I have learned that a good bit of the challenges come from learning who to trust in the industry. You have to learn when people are in it for the music versus those who are in it for the money and power. If you learn that early on, you know how to navigate it more easily, which will in turn help you in the long run. The best thing you can do is stay true to yourself, trust your intuition, and have a strong moral compass!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a musician! I make and perform my own music. My genre is a blend of indie pop, but all the songs I have released so far have a very different sound. I would say one of the things that makes me unique is my range. So many people have approached me saying they love how my music has a different sound with each song while still sounding like me! Additionally, I aim to create an image of someone relatable. I want people to be able to relate to my music and my style, and that is the biggest thing that makes me unique. I don’t try to be someone else or try to seem like I have all these luxuries that I don’t actually have. I like showing my raw lifestyle, emotions, and vulnerability. It’s not something I have seen a lot, but it is something I wish was more prevalent in music.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Working your way up in the music industry is nearly impossible if you are a one man show! The person who deserves the most credit is my mom. She has been the biggest supporter (and critic) of my music, as well as my videographer, photographer, promoter, and everything else. But most importantly, she has helped me through the lowest moments I have been through when dealing with people in the industry. She deserves the most credit as to where I am today and how I got here! Additionally, my manager I met early this year is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. I would not have made as much progress this year if I didn’t have her in my corner! I am lucky to have such a supportive group of friends and family, and I would not be where I am without all of their help, love, and support!
