Daily Inspiration: Meet Los Del Sexto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Los Del Sexto

Hi Los del Sexto, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Our story begins in the summer of 2016 when Antonio and Aldair met at a nearby Guitar Center. Antonio was there getting strings as a birthday gift and Aldair was there with his family buying strings and checking out the store. We started jamming out and got in contact to meet up another day with a tuba player named “Paco”. Antonio was Djing at the time and a client gave him Paco’s number. Aldair was looking for someone to play with, so was Antonio, and Paco was leaving his Banda to form a grupo sierreño called “Sexto Elemento”. When Paco left the group in 2018, Aldair’s cousin Noe joined the band. We continued to grow in our city and had many gigs out of state as well. In 2021 we rebranded, made some changes and Alexandro started playing bass in the trio band now called “Los del Sexto”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When we rebranded to “Los del Sexto” it was hard getting people used to our new name since people knew our old name for a good 5 years. But thankfully our community continued following “Sexto” wherever we would perform.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
When it comes to creating our own music we like to dabble into different styles and genres while keeping it within our Mexican roots. We have Saxaphone, Electric Guitar, Synth Keys, Alto Horns, Trombone, and a couple more instruments in our music but our main instruments are the 12 string guitars and an upright bass. When it comes to the pen and paper we work as a collective to write the lyrics. Then we find whose voice fits the song more. When we hit the studio we try to always have all three present to get the vibe going. That’s just a little insight of how our song creation process is! We have also created music with artists from the Atl area such as “Cafe” x Grupo RYE and “A Corta Edad” x 7MO MANDO. We’re thankful for the invitation to collaborate on their projects and for the doors that have opened up for us throughout this journey.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Being humble and having fun while connecting with the people is very important in a musical career.
