Today we’d like to introduce you to Raheem Jackson.
Hi Raheem, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello everyone, for starters my name is Raheem Jackson and I’m a hometown photographer based here in Buffalo NY for now, my journey started back 5 years ago without any direction as for what I planned to do or how far I would take things. Just a little bit of passion for art to now with a growing fire for it. I started taking photos on my iPhone 13 to just test the waters and had fun doing it so I kept at it and got some compliments and positive feedback which only made me wanna do it more. Then things really took off from there, meeting lots of new people and making tons of connections to people. Getting to travel and see the world more, that feeling of wanting to get the next photo. The best photo. I’m definitely not at the top yet but I don’t plan on stopping until my own art reaches around the world one day. A story to tell everyone and capture others stories to tell to the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far it’s been a pretty smooth road all things considered. No issues with photoshoot or anything. All the ones I’ve done have had good feedback and positive messages. Only thing that’s challenging is finding that next spark and connection but inspiring hits at any moment in time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well like I mentioned earlier I’m a Hometown Photographer I don’t consider myself at the level of Professional yet even tho others around me do. I still feel I haven’t broken through that ceiling yet and I’m still finding my stride. I’m pretty much known for my photos tho and maybe videos but mainly photos. I’m definitely most proud of the amount of improvement I’ve made over the years and how far I’ve come from the start of it all. What sets me apart from others I guess would be my own style of photos and how I see the world through my eyes and the eye of my lens.
What makes you happy?
Honestly, no idea what makes me happy. The betterments of others is definitely one thing and I’m most at peace when taking photos or working on projects.
I’ve been battling with bad depression and anxiety for many years now, lots of moments of ending it all and just saying screw it. I’m Still here tho and still willing to keep going atm and die for the ones I love.
Peoples success and their own drive. Seeing the ones who have been at the very bottom climb up and start winning in life. Helping out people in need or someone who needs someone to lean on. That’s what brings me joy and happiness when sometimes in such a dark and cruel world, there’s still a light to shine.
