Hi Rashitia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I suffer from dry skin and eczema. I constantly struggled to find products that were not only nourishing for my skin, but were also healthy for me. Time after time, I came up short. This is when I decided to get “in the lab” aka my kitchen and create my very own products. I believe beauty and health go hand in hand. When it comes to living a healthy and natural lifestyle, what you put on your skin plays a huge role in your well-being. Your skin is your body’s largest organ! It absorbs everything you put on it. We put many hours of research into each ingredient used in the Amani Skincare line. We pride ourselves on creating luxury organic products. My husband and I are proud to have created Amani. A skincare brand we built together, with love.
We all face challenges but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey into entrepreneurship has been rough and rocky road. We took mini losses at the beginning, but the reward has been worthy of every trial and tribulation. We learned a lot in our first year of business and we’re grateful for each experience, good and bad! We struggled with cash flow, fulfilling orders, and clashing business ideas. Learning to overcome Each struggle has made my husband and I stronger entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Were a black owned business based out of Georgia. Our company of a husband and wife team. We named our business after the word, Amani, means peace in Swahili. We created our brand to provide a blissful experience while creating a Zen-type of mood! Everything about Amani was well thought out, including the colors. Teal combines the calming properties of blue with the renewal qualities of green. It’s the revitalizing and rejuvenating color that also represents open communication and clarity of thought. The color turquoise is associated with meanings of refreshing, feminine, calming, sophisticated, energy, wisdom, serenity, wholeness, creativity, emotional balance, good luck, spiritual grounding, friendship, love, joy, tranquility, patience, intuition, and loyalty. Our products are handmade, cruelty-free, and are not tested on animals. Our working space is a clean and sanitized environment. All our products are made with natural or organic products and make everything in small batches to ensure quality control.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I like to look at Amani as a blessing more so than luck! It provided a second income during the pandemic and provided a job for my entire family. I see Amani as the future “Bath and Body Work” but minority-owned. I see Amani as an exclusive boutique brand. Amani has been an inspiration to other people and business owners around us. We hear all the time how inspired our brand is to those around us. I believe soon, we will be in the position to help others reach for entrepreneurship.
