Today we’d like to introduce you to Shardoria Humphrey.
Hi Shardoria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I was exposed to the beauty industry through my mother, who worked in the hair business. Being around that environment at such a young age, gave me a skillset and level of creativity that I didn’t fully appreciate it first. I actually began taking clients at just 13 years old, but back then I never imagine hair would become my career path.
As I went to through college, I found self continuing to do hair—sometimes to earn extra money but more importantly to help people feel confident and beautiful. Overtime, I realized that the transformations went far beyond appearance. Hair has a deep connection to confidence, identity and self-esteem and I fell in love with the impact I could make throughout this work.
After graduating from college, I enrolled in cosmetology school as a practical backup plan, thinking it was simply provide stability if I ever needed it. At the time I worked a full-time job while also doing hair on the side, but eventually hairstyling became a full-time career.
My journey shifted further when I encountered clients experiencing hair thinning and scalp related concerns. That experience pushed me to take my craft more seriously and deepen my education.
I transitioned from being a Master Cosmetologist to becoming a Certified Holistic Trichologist because I wanted to do more than style hair — I wanted to help people truly understand and restore their hair and scalp health.
Today I specialize in healthy hair and scalp focused care, combining beauty, education, and wellness to help clients not only look good, but feel confident from the inside out.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge helped shape me into the professional woman I am today.
The beauty industry is constantly evolving with new trends, styles, and social media pressures. While many trends are visually appealing, not all of them prioritize the long-term health of the clients hair, and navigating that balance has been challenging.
I’ve also experienced difficult salon environments where competition, comparison, and lack of support can make growth feel isolating.
One of my biggest struggles was trying to figure everything out without mentorship or guidance.
I had to learn how to identify my niche, build a brand, attract the right clientele, price my services properly, and operate a business effectively largely enough through trial and error.
Another challenge was transitioning mentally from “just doing hair” to truly recognizing my value as a specialist and educator. Learning to position myself as an authority in healthy hair and scalp care required confidence, consistency, and continued education.
Despite the challenges, those experiences taught me resilience, professionalism, and the importance of staying committed to purpose over popularity.
