Daily Inspiration: Meet Shemeeka Gentry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shemeeka Gentry.

Hi Shemeeka , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My running journey started back in 2018. What began as a personal outlet quickly turned into a true passion and eventually a platform that’s grown beyond just me. Running became something that helped transform my mindset, build discipline, confidence and community, and over time I realized I wanted to inspire other people to experience that too. As I continued growing in the running space, I started building my personal brand around authenticity, representation, wellness, and showing that running can look like all of us. I’ve been able to partner with brands like Brooks Running, Shokz, Garmin, and many others and represent the running community in a way that blends performance, lifestyle, glam, and real-life experiences. That passion also led me to help build and grow a run club, South Fulton Run Club, focused on the southside of Atlanta specifically creating a space where people of all ages, paces, and backgrounds feel welcomed and encouraged to move their bodies. I wanted to bring more visibility to fitness and running in communities that are often overlooked in the running industry. Today, both my personal brand and run club are centered around impact, community, consistency, and showing people that fitness can truly change your life, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me personally has been learning how to build a brand consistently while also trying not to get caught up in numbers and social media validation. Early on, I felt like I needed a huge following for brands to notice me or take me seriously, but over time I realized that authenticity, consistency, and community impact matter just as much- if not more – than follower count. That shift in mindset helped me focus more on creating genuine connections and opportunities instead of chasing numbers. On the run club side, one of the biggest struggles has honestly been funding and managing everything largely on my own. Running a community-based club takes alot behind the scenes – planning events, creating opportunities, building partnerships, organizing logistics, and making sure people have a positive experience. There are definitely moments where it can feel overwhelming wearing so many hats at once. But even through the challenges, it’s all been rewarding because I’ve been able to see the impact firsthand. Seeing people become more active, gain confidence, build friendships, and feel represented in the running space makes all the hard work worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I currently work as a Proposal Manager at a global firm, where my focus is on marketing and business development. I’ve been in the marketing space for over 12 years, which has allowed me to build a strong foundation in storytelling, strategy, and creating compelling narratives that help win business and communicate value. Outside of my corporate role, I’m also known in my community as a visual artist. I’ve created custom paintings for individuals and have completed murals across Atlanta, which has been a really meaningful extension of my creativity and love for storytelling through visual art. What I’m most proud of is my perseverance. No matter how many closed doors, setbacks, or rejections I’ve faced, I always find a way to stay grounded, shift my perspective, and look for another path forward. That mindset has carried me through both my career and creative journey. What sets me apart is the combination of my creativity, forward-thinking mindset, and resilience. I’m very enterprising. I’m not afraid of hearing “no”, I’m not afraid of hard work, and I’m willing to put in the long hours it takes to bring ideas to life. I naturally think beyond limitations and focus on solutions, which allows me to keep pushing forward even when things get challenging.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has nothing to with my life. My life is centered on GOD and my hard work.
