Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Cornog.
Hi Sierra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with COVID. I believe COVID was a playground for many creators. We were able to take the time we needed to create because we had endless amounts of time spent at home which also gave us the space to create.
I just graduated college when COVID happened and I knew I wasn’t going to be using my degree (Athletic Training), therefore, I pursued other avenues. Event planning was one which I loved. Shopping was the other. I loved creating new outfits and I typically received compliments from people because of what I wore. I saw my friend Lauren doing well on social media and asked to have lunch with her to get more insight into what it meant to be an influencer/content creator. Lauren and I talked for hours!! I was so intrigued about influencing and inspired by her success. From that point on, I decided I wanted to become an influencer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. A lot of people have overnight success (at least from what it seems), however, my journey is the complete opposite. In fact, my journey is still unfolding. Although I do not consistently make money with brand partnerships, I do consider myself an influencer and I carry myself in that way.
What many people do not know is that I work two jobs. I work to pay bills and to also support my influencing career (aka my shopping addiction). This is one of my major struggles. I have to make many sacrifices throughout the week to make time to create content. Is it worth it? I continue to pray and have faith that everything will be worth it in the end.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fashion influencer/ content creator
I specialize in fashion for sizes 8-12 … and I would like to say this is what I am most known for.
I have received many DM’s from women about my size. I am considered to be ‘midsized’, which is honestly an awkward place to be when finding the right clothes. Women have told me how much I’ve been able to help them and how they haven’t seen many midsize influencers or influencers that look like them. This makes me proud. To know that me showing up on social media gives another woman the confidence she needs when putting on clothes makes every sacrifice worth it.
I think being midsized sets me apart from other fashion influencers, but also my authenticity. I know that me being me is going to shine a lot brighter than me trying to copy and paste what I see from other influencers. Therefore, I show up 100% myself and I don’t deviate. I am still learning and discovering new characteristics about myself. As I learn, I share with my followers as well.
Community is important to me and I will continue to be as available to my followers as I possibly can. When I speak on my stories, I usually start by saying “hey friends”… because I genuinely want to be a friend to my followers. I won’t lie to my friends, I am always genuine and honest with my friends, and I will always be down to have a good time with my friends. This is how I want to operate as an influencer.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I do not believe in luck. I do believe in Jesus and how He plays a major role in my life. Without Him, I know I would not have the success I have today. Because of HIm, I am able to walk confidently in what I do. He gives me ideas, He holds my hand, and He wipes my occasional tears.
I remember in November of 2021, I told my best friend, “If I don’t make it to 5 thousand followers by the end of 2022, I am going to stop pursuing influencing full time.” I posted a reel that reached 1 million views and I gained 12 thousand followers by the 5th day of January 2022. I just remember thinking, “God, you are a comedian… thank you”.
I pray and I put God before anything I do. He opens and closes the door when necessary.
I don’t think anything happens by ‘luck’. I do believe that faith moves mountains and my choices are a reflection of my successes or failures.
