Damon Wilson on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Damon Wilson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Damon , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first thing I do every morning is water myself — mentally and physically. I start with a brief meditation to ground myself, followed by reading and journaling to set my intentions for the day. After that, I head to the gym for a workout. That combination of mindfulness and movement sets the tone for everything else I do and helps me start each day with clarity and energy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Damon Wilson — I’m a former professional athlete turned commercial model, influencer, and entrepreneur. After playing basketball at a high level, including overseas, I made a transition into the fashion and lifestyle space where I now use my platform to express creativity, inspire self-confidence, and tell authentic stories through content.

I recently moved to Los Angeles, and I’m currently working on launching my own lifestyle brand that blends fitness, fashion, and self-expression. As someone who values discipline, wellness, and freedom, everything I do — from modeling to business — is rooted in that energy. Whether it’s creating impactful content, walking into a campaign shoot, or building something from the ground up, I want my work to empower others to show up as their full selves.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
God saw me clearly before I could see myself. He’s always been within me, guiding me, even when I didn’t recognize it. It took going through struggle, stillness, and self-reflection to finally hear Him. But once I did, I realized He had been speaking to me the whole time — through intuition, through moments of clarity, and even through my pain. I truly believe He’s within all of us. Sometimes it just takes slowing down to finally listen.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was a child — and even into my teenage years — basketball was my safe space. It helped me through a lot of tough times and shielded me from falling too deep into sadness or depression. Being on the court gave me a sense of purpose and control. Sports in general helped me stay active, social, and connected to something bigger than myself. It gave me joy, structure, and a way to express emotions I didn’t always know how to put into words.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Authenticity. In a world that constantly pressures us to fit into boxes or perform for approval, I protect the value of showing up as my true self. Whether it’s in my work, relationships, or how I move through life, staying rooted in who I am — and allowing others to do the same — is something I’ll never compromise on.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I’ve come to understand that your connection with God will take you exactly where you need to be — not always where you want to be, but where your spirit is meant to grow. That quiet inner relationship is more powerful than any outside validation or plan. When you trust it, you stop forcing things and start aligning with your purpose. That kind of faith changes everything.
