Exploring Life & Business with Emily Vick of IveyRose Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Vick.

Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
IveyRose Photography is a photography company based out of Leesburg, Georgia, founded by two best friends with a love of capturing memories for others. We both have had a passion for photography since we were little girls. Coming from military families, we have learned the importance of capturing the special moments in time because you do not know when you will be able to see someone you love again the next time.

Emily Vick of IveyRose Photography originally started this company as Emily Vick Photography, when she was in high school, offering free photography to build her portfolio. She took a step back from photography for a while. In late 2018 she found love for her passion again, alongside her best friend Amanda Ivey, deciding to go into business together and rebrand the company. Since both Emily Vick and Amanda Ivey owned IveyRose, we were on the hunt to come up with a name that had meaning to both photographers. Coming from Amanda’s last name and Emily’s middle name, IveyRose Photography was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any small business owner you talk to will have a long list of obstacles they have had to overcome or challenges along the way. One of the main things we have had to overcome has been being best friends of 20 years and now business partners. No matter what happens, personally, between us, our business, and our clients, will always come first. That’s something we both agreed on when we founded IveyRose Photography. On the other hand, there are many positives to working with your best friend, such as getting to explore new adventures together. Another positive of working together is that some aspects come easier, like knowing one another strengths and weaknesses.

Our photography compliments one another and we flow as one when working together. Among this being based out of a small town has had its challenges as well. There are many other amazing and well-established photographers in our area. We have had to compete with these larger companies, meaning it took us a long time to come up with reasonable prices that were competitive with theirs. On that same note, having other photographers in our city has presented us with many opportunities to collaborate with, and celebrate, others and their successes. Since we have been established as IveyRose Photography, another obstacle we have faced is scheduling clients and making sure we can coordinate those schedules with each other. Amanda Ivey is in the Air Force and stationed in Warner Robins, GA. During these trying times in our communities, we have learned to get creative with client consultations and other areas of our company.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
IveyRose Photography offers many things that set us apart from others, general family photography, pet photography, product photography, wedding photography, and event planning. Aside from our many photography capabilities, we also have a unique option that we offer our clients, no matter their session type. Not only do our co-owners photograph our clients, we have two additional photographers that allow us to book more than one session or event on the same day. This allows our clients more flexibility and the opportunity to choose their specific photographers for their session or event. A main goal of ours is to make sure our clients have the best experience possible.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Many risks come along with starting your own company, but especially during a pandemic. We have been in business since before COVID-19 was running as rampant as it is. However, we had just started picking up business and turning a profit when the pandemic became a true reality. On that same note, before the pandemic came into full effect, Emily quit her job to be a full-time photographer for the company, this was one of the largest risks our company took, but our loyal clients and word of mouth have made our company stronger.
