Exploring Life & Business with Gardner Beson of Easy Peasy Pro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gardner Beson.

Gardner, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been a musician on the cusp of commercial success for my entire career, and when my house broke, I was never able to afford contractors to fix it. So, I learned how to fix my own home. I enjoy working with my hands. It tickles the same spot in my brain that making music does. Growing up in a small town in South Carolina, I had two uncles who were very handy and taught me a great deal about how to build, repair, and maintain things.

Fixing my home became a hobby, and when my home had nothing left to fix it became a side hustle via fixing others’ homes, then became my primary source of income when I began to out-earn my former day job.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding good sources of funding, good clients, and good workers are the constant struggles that many small business owners find themselves battling. I definitely fall into this category, but these challenges were exacerbated by COVID-19 entering the equation in 2020.

I was constantly entering the homes of strangers, going to hardware stores, out and about, and wearing masks while working in extreme conditions. The construction market is / was volatile and that makes it difficult to predict the amount of work available and how many workers to keep on staff. Additionally, construction jobs aren’t glamourous – I don’t think many young people consider it an attractive career path on first glance. However, keeping water out of the home and keeping air conditioners humming (especially in Atlanta!) is essential work!

Additionally, I relapsed during the pandemic. I’m sober again, but picking up the pieces for a second time wasn’t easy. However, this lead to me building in sustainable business practices and codifying anti-burn-out policies in my handbook. Where there was darkness before, I now see a bright and resilient future. Work is no longer a chore or a means of income but a privilege and a joy that I am fortunate enough to participate in on a daily basis.

We’ve been impressed with Easy Peasy Pro, LLC., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My construction company works in renovations and remodeling services. We specialize in decks, flooring, tile, and BUILDING MUSIC STUDIOS! In fact, we’ve built music studios for a few genre-defining artists in the EDM / Electronic music scene.

I’ve been building music studios for myself and my friends since I graduated from USC in 2011; and as of 2016 professionally building and maintaining music and recording studios. I have also designed and built almost all of the furniture in the music studios that I’ve built and maintained.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Repairing and reusing unused space and transforming it into functional, usable space grants me a feeling of authenticity and purpose.
