Exploring Life & Business with Jada Powell of Ebony Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Powell.

Jada Powell

Jada, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I attended Athens Technical College in my hometown Athens, GA where I was born and raised. I graduated from the Esthetician program in 2021. I immediately applied for a waxing chain company that I heard was hiring!

Stuck it out for a year and in 2022 I decided to take a leap of faith to go out on my own because I knew what I had to offer for clients that have now became my regulars to make their experience better!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth, however I’ve learned from it and it happens to all of us. Starting my business up definitely wasn’t easy! It was scary having to quit my job to now depending on my new business for my suite rent. I have my slow weeks, it can be really discouraging sometimes even to a thought where I had to ask myself did I make the right decision. I got a second job working overnight so I can focus on my business during the day. It’s tiring but I work hard for it and it so rewarding! I love what I do!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Ebony Esthetics is a small black-owned business run by a licensed esthetician who masters in full body waxing, specializing in the Brazilian/bikini area. Although one of my skills includes speed waxing (15 minutes or less Brazilians) you will never feel rushed! I take time to reassure my nervous clients and make everyone as comfortable as possible with my technique. My space is always a vibe and most importantly clean. I use nothing but the best professional products, my hard wax is hypoallergenic which is perfect for all skin types! I enjoy educating my clients about waxing and aftercare, I stand behind my work!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Ah, I’m only a year into my own business but already know I want so much more for myself in this industry! But I for sure know I want to run my own storefront with multiple beauty providers. I’m taking it one day at a time though.
