Today we’d like to introduce you to Keishla Roman.
Hi Keishla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story really begins with my mother.
When I was young, she suffered an injury that left her barely able to get out of bed. As a little girl, watching someone you love live in that kind of pain and not fully understanding why is something that stays with you. I remember how it affected her in every way: physically, emotionally, and in her ability to simply show up as a mother and a professional woman.
Everything changed when she started chiropractic care. Little by little, she started moving better, feeling stronger, becoming herself again. To me, it honestly felt like she got a new life, without depending on medication and without surgery. That moment planted something deep in me.
What stayed with me from that experience was the image of my mother getting her life back. I didn’t fully understand the “why” behind it yet. That understanding came later, when I started studying and everything I had witnessed began to make sense.
I went on to complete my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Puerto Rico. I always knew I wanted to work in healthcare, but traditional medicine never fully resonated with me. Around that time, my sister began chiropractic school, and when she’d come home to Puerto Rico, she’d talk about the nervous system, the body’s ability to heal, and how connected everything is. Something just clicked.
I followed her to Georgia to attend Life University, where we both earned our Doctor of Chiropractic degrees. Leaving Puerto Rico, my family and my friends was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But having my sister by my side made all the difference. The friendships and support system we built there became family too.
After graduating, we spent years working in personal injury practices, helping patients recover after accidents. Those years shaped us deeply, not just clinically, but in how we understand pain and its emotional weight.
Eventually, we took a leap of faith and opened Nova Vitae Chiropractic together. Nova Vitae means “new life” in Latin, and that name holds everything we hope to give our patients: hope, healing, and a better quality of life. Opening this practice with my sister has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I get to do work I love, every day, alongside my best friend.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, no.
One of the hardest moments came before we even opened our doors. Moving away from Puerto Rico, from my family and everything familiar, was more emotional than I expected. I had lived there my entire life. Starting over in Georgia felt exciting and terrifying at the same time. There were nights in chiropractic school when I genuinely questioned whether I was good enough, whether I could really do this. That kind of self-doubt is something I don’t think we talk about enough in healthcare.
Having my sister there pulled me through those moments. We leaned on each other through the hard semesters, the long nights, and the moments of uncertainty. That bond made us stronger, and it’s the same bond that holds our practice together today.
Then came a completely different kind of challenge: becoming business owners. We knew how to care for patients. We did not know how to run a business. Marketing, finances, branding, leadership — none of that was in our training. We had to figure it out while also seeing patients, building a team, and putting ourselves out there in ways that were far outside our comfort zone.
There were stressful seasons and moments where we had to trust the vision even when things felt uncertain. But I think that’s where real growth lives. Not in the comfortable moments, but in the ones that ask more of you than you thought you had.
Every time a patient tells us they feel like themselves again, it reminds me that every hard step was worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Most people who find us weren’t necessarily looking for a chiropractor. They were just tired of not feeling like themselves.
Nova Vitae Chiropractic is a wellness-focused practice in Roswell, Georgia, founded by my sister Dr. Ashley Roman and me, Dr. Keishla Roman. Nova Vitae means “new life” in Latin, and that name is not just branding. It’s our intention for every person who walks through our door.
The people who come to us are often dealing with things that built up slowly over time. Chronic headaches from hours at a desk, neck and shoulder tension that never quite goes away, low back pain during pregnancy, lingering discomfort after an accident, or simply feeling disconnected from their own body. We focus on nervous system health, manual adjustments, posture education, and movement. We work with families, pregnant women, children, professionals, and personal injury patients — really anyone who wants to feel and function better.
What sets us apart is the experience we create. We believe the body is deeply connected and that stress, emotions, posture, movement, and the nervous system all influence how someone feels every day. Our approach is never about temporary relief alone. It’s about helping patients understand their bodies and build long-term wellness.
We’re also deeply proud to serve the Hispanic community. As Puerto Rican doctors, being bilingual allows us to connect with patients on a deeper level and creates a space where families feel truly comfortable communicating. Representation in healthcare matters, and we’ve seen firsthand how meaningful it is for a patient to walk into an office and feel understood, not just medically but culturally.
What I’m most proud of, beyond any service or specialty, is the trust people associate with Nova Vitae Chiropractic. We never wanted our office to feel cold or clinical. We wanted it to feel like a place where people are genuinely welcomed, educated, and cared for like family. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is making a real difference in people’s lives. I genuinely care about every patient that walks through our door. I want them to move freely, enjoy their life, have fun, and feel good in their body. I want them to be present for the people they love.
I also want people to stop accepting pain as normal. Pain is your body communicating with you, and I want to help you listen to it.
But more than anything, I want people to feel cared for. Like someone in their corner who truly wants the best for them. That kind of connection is just as important to me as the work we do clinically. It’s what makes this feel like more than a job. It feels like a purpose.
