Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Colston.
I have been in the beauty industry for ten years, beginning my career as a make-up artist. The funny thing is I had no idea that beauty would interest me. I was like the normal girl played in makeup – dress up – hair, etc. – but growing up the only careers we would hear of were doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. – we never were introduced to entrepreneurship. One of my very first high school jobs was at a beauty kiosk which excited me because back then if a job in the mall was greatly sought after. I had no idea that I would become very interested and passionate about this industry. It wasn’t until 2013 that the beauty industry begin to call my name again and I found myself at the Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy. I’ve worked as a mua in TV and film – fashion as well as everyday people. After dealing with numerous faces and covering them in makeup, I realized that I wanted to do something to help people achieve clear skin without the use of make – up and three years later, I enrolled myself into an Esthetics program at the International School of Skin Nails and Massage, where I became a licensed esthetician in 2016.
It was at that point that I felt I was within my true calling – skincare. A platform where I could help people look and feel wonderful about their natural appearance, restore confidence as well as educate them on the importance of a skincare regimen. After graduating, I immediately begin performing skincare treatments in Atlanta. Still something was missing from the big picture, everyday I would utilize so many different product brands and annually, I would attend all of these Esthetic trade shows where I was surrounded by these brands that I used in my treatment room and it created an urge for me to one day have my own product line. It took some time for me to decide on things like what I wanted it to look like, what I would name it and combining all the right ingredients. I finally came up with the name D.E.F.I.N.E. SKIN CLINICAL SKINCARE SYSTEM. After extensive research, I begin to incorporated the prototype into my treatments and introducing these ingredients to my client’s skin and the results and feedback were all positive. Finally, I was ready to launch however in that same year 2020 we were faced with the pandemic COVID -19.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The greatest challenge that I have faced was within the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. For a long time, I’d battled with transitioning from corporate America being a full-time entrepreneur. As the cities operations were shut down and we were all under the shelter in place order, I was no longer able to treat my clients which caused their skin to become neglected from normal maintenance. Luckily I still held a position in corporate America that aided me financially while my aesthetic business was taking a major hit. I begin to think very hard about what I could do to provide them with essentials they needed to maintain their skins integrity and something that I could do to stay relevant during the limited access everyone had. Then I launched “Skincare Quarantine” A live stream that I would conduct three times a week where I would walk them step by step through their products they had at home and how to use them and answers questions in a fun open conversation setting. This allowed me to maintain my relationship with my clients and allowed them to still be able to voice their concerns and resolve issues they were having because they weren’t able to physically be treated.
As you know, we’re big fans of D.E.F.I.N.E. SKIN. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
D.E.F.I.N.E. SKIN – An acronym for Deep Effortless Fierce Intentional Natural Eternal Skin – is a medspa studio where I offer advanced skincare and laser hair removal treatments. Aside of my aesthetic work I am known for my skincare line D.E.F.I.N.E. SKIN CLINICAL SKINCARE SYSTEM which I launched in 2021. This product line delivers clinical strength ingredients to the skin safely, penetrates quickly and allows for faster results. This product line is comprehensive meaning there is a formula for each skin type and ethnic background. The launching of this product line has been one of the proudest moments in my aesthetic career. As of now my products are offered in 3 authorized retail locations in the U.S., Larayia’s Bodega located in Ponce City Market – Atlanta. Larayia’s Bodega – Los Angeles , and Luxe Body Spa located in Marrietta, GA.

Always put God first in everything that you do. If your intentions are pure, then your aspirations will flourish. Being of service to people and a resource has allowed me to live life more intentionally. I am filled with excitement and joy to be able to give back in the form of skincare and aesthetics and very honored to name Atlanta the founding city for D.E.F.I.N.E. SKIN.
