Exploring Life & Business with Miro LaFlaga of Six Cinquieme

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miro LaFlaga.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out as a local stylist in the Montreal where I was helping artists look good. I was documenting the entire process on a blog I was running at the time and I slowly build up a name for myself. My network got bigger as well. One thing lead to another, where I started getting contacted to direct music videos. I did that for a while until I met my partner, Ash Phillips, who was a graphic designer at the time. We decided to put skills together and formed our agency, Six Cinquième. Presently, we mainly work startups and entrepreneurs where we help them establish their brand identity through design and strategy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it wasn’t a smooth journey because I had to learn everything on my own. A big mistake I made was that I did not consult with a lawyer earlier. I did not trademark my company’s name when I first started (in the past, we were operating under the name Divvi), which led to someone else trademarking the name. I had to change my company’s name and do a full rebrand.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Six Cinquieme?
We help innovative businesses discover who they are at their core, preparing them to disrupt their industries and create a lasting impact. By defining their brands, we help businesses uncover their untapped potential and set them up to win with creative strategy, co-creation and design.

We do what we do because we understand that when you have a strong brand and know how to communicate it, you build a confidence that is hard to ignore. You become the one people look to set trends and define the future. You build stronger relationships, your value becomes non-negotiable, and your attractiveness becomes undeniable. It’s brands like these that we help build and it’s brands like these that change the world.

One of the reasons Six Cinquième was founded is to create more opportunities and offer more representation to BIPOC in a creative industry that lacks much diversity behind the scenes. As a result, founders Miro and Ash regularly facilitate workshops to teach BIPOC businesses about the benefits of branding, to share insights on how they built their agency and to encourage more BIPOC youth to pursue their interest in creative careers. Our goal is to level the playing field so that we can normalize our presence in the industry.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Playing video games all day long while waiting for my mother to come back home from work.
