Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelson Trimble.
Hi Nelson, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was inspired by 2Pac it was the beginning of the Iraq war and something said, to me, Nelson, it’s time to change so I began writing. I never shared my writings and one day, a friend asked me what I had in my notebook? I let him read my writings. He was so inspired he took me to a studio and I’ve been on this journey ever since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. The road has not been smooth being an artist, a positive artist, a spoken word artist has always had its challenges. We live in a contradictory world and people tend to support things that are opposite of their wants and desires for life. Meaning we will get a sold-out gangsta rap concert before we get a sold-out spoken word event. So the lack of funds tends to drive people away from their passion. And that’s been the biggest challenge of staying persistent and consistent over the past 18 years.
As you know, we’re big fans of Popular Lame Clothing and Accessories. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Popular Lame clothing is operated by me and the co-founder, Nafeesah Burson. Popular Lame Clothing promotes education, community and fashion, which is a key foundation to everything that we stand for individually, and as a company. We have printed and been a part of a lot of Atlanta history in our short existence. We are motivating people, young and old. They see us winning with something positive and they feel like they can win and be positive, which makes them proud to wear the brand. We have even been able to appeal to the streets and have more edgy people calling themselves lames. That is what I am most proud of about our company, and our clothes. We have been able to appeal to 3 different forms of society, the tech, the loners, and the sketchy edgy streets.
Popular Lame specializes in custom printing, as well as clothing and accessories. Our number one performing item is our Popular Lame Hoodies. It was our Popular Lame Hoodies that put us on the map as a clothing line to reckon with in Atlanta. We really love to match up shoes and colors. Customization of our clothes to match your shoes is one of our top services. Our slogan at Popular Lame Clothing… Everything is White Air Force-1 friendly.
Can you talk about how you think about risk?
I believe in taking risk. If I never take a risk on myself, my life takes another direction. Without risk, you have no reward. There’s no such thing as luck, it’s risk and rewards. You just have to determine if the reward is worth the risk.
