Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel P..
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My background is in dietetics, and I’ve always been passionate about bringing together really good food and high-quality nutrition. I’ve never believed that healthy eating should feel restrictive or boring. I believe it should be beautiful, satisfying, and made with thoughtful ingredients.
When my own family life became full of juggling careers, kids, and a packed calendar of after-school activities, I realized the only way I could truly control what we were eating was to dedicate my entire Sunday to meal prep. I’d spend the day cooking and creating these big, colorful spreads of ready-to-grab meals for the week ahead. Mornings were smoother, evenings were less chaotic, and I felt good knowing my family was nourished, even on our busiest baseball-and-ballet days.
I started sharing photos of those weekly spreads, and before long, friends (and then friends of friends) were asking me to come cook for them. What began as a solution for my own family quickly revealed a bigger need: busy families want to eat well, but they don’t always have the time or structure to make it happen.
So I took a leap… and Salt & Prepped was born.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I don’t think building a business ever is. Every time we grow, we uncover a new layer of challenges to work through.
In the beginning, it was a lot of trial and error. I was figuring out what worked, what didn’t, how to price appropriately, and most importantly, how to set boundaries with clients. When you care deeply and want to serve well, it can be hard to say no. Learning to protect my time, stability, energy, and standards was a huge season of growth.
Now, the challenges look different. We are leading a team, serving a higher volume of clients, and operating at a much larger scale. That means building trust, learning to delegate well, and stepping fully into leadership instead of trying to do everything myself. It also means celebrating the diversity and strengths each chef brings to the table while staying aligned with the Salt & Prepped brand and standards.
Growth has stretched me in every way, but each phase has refined the business and made us stronger and better.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Salt & Prepped is an in-home private chef meal prep service designed specifically for busy families who want to eat well without sacrificing their time. We handle the entire process from start to finish, including menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking in the client’s home, and full kitchen clean up. When we leave, the fridge is stocked with thoughtfully prepared meals that fit the family’s lifestyle, preferences, and goals.
We specialize in high-quality, nourishing food that feels elevated but approachable. With my background in dietetics, nutrition is always a foundation, but flavor and enjoyment are just as important. Our meals are customized each week based on feedback, family schedules, and evolving needs. Whether a household is focused on performance nutrition, weight management, allergy accommodations, or simply feeding growing kids well, we tailor everything accordingly.
What truly sets us apart is the relationship we build inside our clients’ homes. Our chefs don’t feel transactional. They become a trusted presence each week. With consistent feedback and time, our chefs become incredibly attuned to each family’s likes, dislikes, spice tolerance, and even subtle preferences. They can adjust recipes on the fly to match individual palates without the client needing to ask. That level of personalization creates ease and trust that is hard to replicate.
What I want readers to know is that Salt & Prepped is not just about food. It is about giving families margin in their week. It is about removing the mental load of “what’s for dinner” and replacing it with confidence, nourishment, and time back around the table.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I try to listen to an audiobook a week, usually while I’m working out or commuting. It’s one of the easiest ways for me to consistently grow without needing extra time in my day. I don’t have one specific recommendation because I think what you need shifts in different seasons, but I’m a big believer in staying hungry and always consuming material that stretches you, both personally and professionally.
I also think it’s important to diversify the voices you’re learning from. Listen to people outside your industry, outside your background, and even outside your comfort zone. Use discernment, not every idea is a good one, and not every strategy fits your values, brand, or season of life. Growth isn’t about implementing everything you hear. It’s about filtering wisely and applying what truly aligns.
