Exploring Life & Business with Rjay Summers of DJ J-Spinna DJ Services/Kitchen Whipz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rjay Summers.

Hi Rjay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
So with the djing, my mom really saw that for me first. You know moms know what’s best for you before you even know sometimes. She put me into DJ school, and from there I fell in love with it. With the selling plates, I posted some pasta that I made on Instagram one day. I got a lot of replies asking when I was going to start selling plates, so I did.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were definitely some bumps in the road with both businesses. With djing, I had to kind of learn the ropes of the game. I had to set up my business to where I could not lose. And I still have little bumps in the road from time to time. But a lot of it really is just about preparation. As far as with cooking, I haven’t had too many obstacles, thank God.

We’ve been impressed with DJ J-Spinna DJ Services/Kitchen Whipz, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
DJ J-Spinna DJ Services is my baby. It’s my passion. I love delivering that lit experience for my customers. I’ve learned how to read the room, and it has brought me much success. I specialize in weddings, parties, corporate events, and pretty much any event that would need a DJ. Kitchen Whipz is my cooking business. I got the name because I make all of my food in my kitchen, of course. Aside from selling plates from time to time, I do also cater.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I ultimately see myself djing for a big artist in about five years. I can just see it. But good things take time. So, I’m willing so take that time. And as far as my cooking business, I just want to build my clientele.
