Exploring Life & Business with Yolanda Campbell of SheCuts Barber Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Campbell.

Hi Yolanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Long Island, NY. I’ve been in the hair industry for over 25 years. I worked for Dudley’s which is a hair company located in NC that offered advanced classes for cosmetologists, I taught their clipper metrics class for a few years, where I developed my love for cutting all hair textures. I also loved having client’s attention for at least 30 minutes, which I saw as a gift to be able to uplift and speak words of encouragement in a clean, zen environment to many different people who I have the pleasure of servicing. When I moved to Georgia in 2000, I worked in a shop in the At&t corporate building in Midtown Atlanta. I worked there for almost 15 years. When the owner of the shop passed away and I was able to take ownership of the shop.

After owning the shop for five years. At&t sold the building and all the businesses in the retail mall had to close. This was in 2018-2019. I was blessed to have an opportunity to open up again back in April of 2021 a few blocks from my old shop. It was not the ideal time due to Covid-19 to open a business again but with my faith and wonderful supportive clients, I was able to open SheCuts Barber Studio again. I have been walking by faith as I try to reestablish my business and rebuild. I also started Yoili Designs back in 2008 which was started as a hobby. I made a beaded bracelet for a friend who had lost their mother due to cancer and was wearing a rubber bracelet in her honor and I wanted to make her something a little nicer and that is how I got started. The name Yoli is a nickname my cousins call me and I changed it to YOILI which is an acronym for YOU OWN IT. LIVE IT. my bracelets are beautiful adornments created to remind us of the power, beauty and most of all the abundance of blessings we all possess. Whatever you’re facing, whatever you desire, there is No limit. So whatever your IT Is Own it and Live It. That is my Motto that motivates me every day with my businesses, SheCuts Barber Studio & YOILI Designs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This second go round has been a bit of a struggle due to COVID. A lot of clients are still working from home and are slow to come back in. It has also been a challenge to rent out my two open chairs in the shop. But I’m optimistic that things will start to fall into place after the new year.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SheCuts Barber Studio?

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I had a great childhood, Raised by a single mom. My mom raised my sister and I with so much love there was never a day that went by current day included that I wasn’t told that I was loved… One of my favorite childhood memories was one Christmas I wanted a Barbie dream doll house and just like most kids at Christmas, I went to sleep early and woke up super early like 4am to go look under the tree to see if I had gotten the dream house because all the bigger gifts my mom wouldn’t put out until we were sleep. Well, my cousins lived next door to us in a duplex and I snuck out to go get them to show them my Dream House that wasn’t just the regular dream house, my Mom had my grandfather to put lights all in the house that turned on and off with a button that he added in the house. It was soooo nice. Well, when I came back with my cousins behind me, I had locked myself out. I had to wait until my mom or sister got up… It was so funny my mom didn’t even get upset with me she just laughed. But that’s only one of many childhood memories that I hold dear to me.
