We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gary Beauford. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Gary, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My time spent with the Lord in prayer, reading my word & worship
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gary Beauford I’m a dancer, teacher & choreographer & I work in the entertainment industry. I’m also a husband & working on a family with my beautiful wife Crystal. Working in this industry is very rewarding great pay, travel & I get work with & meet stars that people only see on tv or on social media.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before working in the industry I was in the United States Airforce. I served 4 years & worked for the Army as a civilian after my term in the military. Both jobs were cool & got to do some amazing work with some amazing individuals. But I knew I wanted more out life & out of my job. I wanted to do what I loved for my work, didn’t want to wake up dreading to go to work everyday.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh man! There was few times I almost gave up on this career field. Being in this industry is very competitive starting out. You have train very hard & make a name for yourself so you can work consistently & that took a long time for work to get to the point to where it was consistent. In that time doubt can creep in, questioning if your good enough, watching peers book work & wondering why your not, it could be a lot to handle. I had to grow very thick skin & understand this career field is about showing up & being consistent every time you step in a room. Creating a habit of being great not just trying to be great ima moment. I thank God for helping me through those tough times & giving me the strength to believe in what He already bless me with.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Well that you have to be perfect & that you can’t mess up. So people move with the intent to not mess up & there is no joy or feeling in what they do which nobody wants because they can’t feel what you’re doing. This career field is all about sell a product, brand or even yourself, and in order to do that you must feel what you’re doing. If you feel it others will feel it & will buy the product, brand or buy into you. I want people to understand that being perfect is a lie we are human we are going to mess up, I believe that once we accept that then the mess ups happen less & less because your not focused on them or giving attention to them. We have to do things through Christ, He is the only perfect being & He is the only way we can ever reach any type of perfection in our lives
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people one tell others that he believed in Christ & lived as an example of someone doing so. Outside of that just want to be known as someone who pushed others to work hard & be consistent in life. That nothing happens over night & that Christ is the way, the truth & the life
