Today we’d like to introduce you to Aqeel Hasan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Augusta, GA. I have a BS in chemistry from Georgia Southern University, an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and a MS in Conflict Management & Dispute Resolution from Baker University. I have spent most of my career in corporate America, focusing on quality assurance and process efficiency. But throughout this time, I have never lost my passion for science and entertainment (television & film). In an effort to find an outlet for my passions, I created a company called Hexagon Enterprise & Holdings, LLC that has two divisions, which are Clean Energy & Film/TV. Under the Film/TV division, I developed The Enterprise Theater. This is a streaming platform for independent filmmakers to sell their short films, features, & documentaries as downloads to customers. There is no fee for filmmakers to be on the site and they receive a percentage of every download sold. In 2018, I wrote my first movie script and realized that I had spent 20 years working outside of the film industry and had zero connections. I started to think of a way to try get my projects made, viewed, and possibly monetize on them.
I concluded that I would have to create my own path and make it available to others like myself. In most cases, after an indie filmmaker has submitted their projects to the film festivals, the projects end up on a free viewing website or on the shelf. Now, with the Enterprise Theater, a filmmaker can place their film on the site and possibly make a profit to fund their next project. The site is also available to established filmmakers that have a passion project that they want to fund themselves and recoup their cost through downloads on my site. Since The Enterprise theater is an original design, I was able to copyright it.
Currently, I am working on creating original content for the site similar to Netflix & Hulu in their infancy. I consume a ton of content and am enjoying writing, directing, & producing my own content. Also, in the Clean Energy division, I have a patent pending for a new energy design that will be under development in late 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The obstacles I faced are that I had zero connections in the film industry, which required me to reach out to strangers and explain this new platform and idea in an age of deception and misleading information. My biggest hurdle is trying to reassure filmmakers that they keep 100% ownership of their projects. I try to put myself in their place, and I can see how making profits off of downloads on an unknown site could be a risky proposition. As a filmmaker myself, I had dreams of selling projects to the big studios or other streaming platforms. Now, I can create my own content and maintain ownership and control of my projects. This is what I offer to all filmmakers. Now, a filmmaker can create their own project, maintain ownership, and market their projects to an international audience. Above all this will allow them to maintain their independence.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Enterprise Theater?
The Enterprise Theater is a new platform for unknown and independent filmmakers. There is so much content that is created and never seen by a large audience. The Enterprise Theater is a place were some of these works will be available.
The site is owned and operated by a writer/director that understands how hard it is to sell a script, get recognition, become discovered, etc. By partnering with The Enterprise Theater, an independent filmmaker will have the opportunity to reach more of an audience than ever before and create some revenue in the process. The filmmaker will maintain 100% ownership of their projects.
What does success mean to you?
I have had the opportunity to speak with high school and college students throughout my career. I would always tell them the saying “find a career that you love and you will never work a day in your life or find a career that will allow you to do what you love in your free time” I am the latter and The Enterprise Theater is an example of that.
